Today is the day I've been waiting for. Momma is coming home today. I'm picking her up after school. Kyle and Nyah hopped in the car. I started the car and pulled out of the parking lot of my apartment. I drove down the highways and dropped my siblings off to school. Then I headed to school.
In first period Ty sat down next to me.
"Hey girl how you been?" She asked.
"Girl I've been good." I replied.
"You've been missing in action lately. Rodney got you dick whipped?"
"Girl..."
"Wait! You let him hit?"
"Yeah.."
"Damn girl why didn't you tell me?"
"I'm sorry between him and my siblings I just got caught up."
"Yeah but I see you every day in school."
"I know but my mind has been everywhere. Momma is coming home today."
"Oh my gosh for real?"
"Yeah girl."
"I know you're happy."
"Im ecstatic."
"This is so exciting after all this time you can finally get a break from everything."
"Yes and the best part is. When momma fully recovers she will go to work."
"Girl I am so happy for you."
"Thanks."My biology teacher cleared her throat. Ty and I looked at her.
"Care to share?" She asked.
"No Ms. Davis." I replied.
"Both of you know the rules of my class and you fail to comply. I need both of you to compile a lesson for next week. You will be teaching since you enjoy talking so much."
"Okay." I said.
"Tyesha did you hear me?" Ms. Davis said.
"Yeah." Ty said as she rolled her eyes.
"Good."
Ms. Davis went back to her board and continued to write notes. I took out my notebook and a pen and jotted down my notes.
The bell rang and Ty and I rushed out of class to avoid any confrontation from Ms. Davis. I went into math and texted Rodney.Me: hey babe.
Rodney: hey beautiful.
Me: I'm bored.
Rodney: I'm at work.
Me: you having fun?
Rodney: ain't you in school?
Me: yeah I'm in math. And I wanna take a nap.
Rodney: babe you should be paying attention.
Me: i know but algebra is boring.
Rodney: baby you need to pay attention. I love you.
Me: i love you too.
Rodney: stay off your phone and find the value of x.
Me: what if i wanna find the value of d?
Rodney: is that some homework you need help with?
Me: yes i have to find d
Rodney: maybe you need to subtract then divide to find d😏
Me: maybe you need to show me 🙃
Rodney: we still talking about math?
Me: nope.
Rodney: how about i show you tonight?
Me: tonight ain't a good night.
Rodney: why?
Me: momma's coming home tonight.
Rodney: oh damn i forgot.
Me: we can make plans for another day.
Rodney: alright baby i gotta go😘
Me: i love you😘
Rodney: i love you too😘I locked my phone screen and looked up at the board. I realized that my math teacher was absent. Damn. I looked around the class and saw Kj eyeballing me. I rolled my eyes at him. Kj got up and walked up to me.
"Need some company?" He asked. I ignored him and turned my head in the opposite direction.
Kj grabbed my shoulder and a flashback hit me. I remember him cornering me in the janitors closet. I snapped back into reality and smacked his hand away.
"Ain't gotta be so feisty girl. I just want some sugar." He said.
"Leave me alone." I said.
"You know sugar is addictive right? I'm addicted to your sugar."
"Shut up Kj."
"You know you taste like sugar right? Is that how you got the nickname?"
"I said leave me the fuck alone!"
I got up out of my seat.
"Come here girl let me get some sugar."
I smacked the fuck out of Kj. I felt his hand wrap around my throat. My feet are no longer touching the floor. I gasped for air. I could feel my eyes getting heavy. I continued to gasp for air. I felt somebody grab my waist and my neck was released. James helped me sit back in my seat. I watched the other boys in the class take Kj out of the classroom.
"You good?" He asked.
"Yeah thanks so much." I replied.
"No problem. You don't deserve to take any shit from anybody."
"Thanks."
"If you need anything I got you."
"That's so sweet."
James handed me a piece of paper with his number on it. I chuckled at him. The bell rang. I got up and grabbed my stuff. I decided to go to the hospital. I should hurry and het momma settled.
I walked out of the main entrance and hopped in my car.At the hospital
I help momma into the wheelchair. I'm so happy to take her home. I put one of her bags in her lap and the other on my shoulder. I wheeled her out of the hospital room.
"Would you like some assistance?" A nurse offered.
"No thanks." I replied.
I wheeled momma all the way to my car. I helped her in and put her bags in the trunk. I hopped in the car and drove her to the world's shittiest apartment.
I carried her stuff inside before helping her inside. I got her settled in my bed.
"Heaven I'm so happy to be out of that hospital." Momma said.
"Me too." I replied as I started to cry.
"Why are you crying hun?"
"Because I'm so happy. I love you so much momma. I've been waiting for this moment since you got in the hospital. I feel like my dreams are coming true."
"That's because they are."
"Gosh momma I love you."
"I love you too Heaven."
"Its time for me to pick up Kyle and Nyah you gonna be good?"
"Yes."
"As a matter of fact I don't wanna leave you hold on."
I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and called Rodney.
"Hey beautiful." He answered.
"Hey baby you busy?" I asked.
"No why?"
"Can you pick up Kyle and Nyah for me? I can't leave momma unattended."
"No problem baby."
I ended the call.
"Who was that?" Momma asked.
"That was my boyfriend Rodney."
"Oh boyfriend? So do I get to meet him?"
"Yeah."Momma and I caught up on everything. I grabbed some yogurt and we watched some Love and HipHop together until Rodney came.
I opened the door for him.
"Hey beautiful." He said as he kissed me on my cheek.
"Hey come meet momma." I replied.
He came inside. Kyle and Nyah bolted for my room. I heard lots of chatter coming from my room. I know they are glad to see her not in a hospital bed. Rodney walked in my room and I followed behind.
"Momma this is Rodney. Rodney this is my momma." I said.
"Hi Mrs. Meyers." He said.
"Nice to meet you Rodney." Momma said.
