Amelia still won't talk to me. I try everyday to get her to speak but she completely refuses. Sometimes I even get to the point where I beg her. She still says no. That's all I get from her. "No." I guess it's better than total silence.
At school everything continues on as it always has. Except now I notice them a lot more than I should. The group of kids I'm absolutely forbidden from socialising with. Liam and I hang out more. Everyone thinks we're dating, which is a good thing if our parents ask around.
We purposely act as if we're in a relationship. It's weird. I've never been in a real one and now I'm faking one with someone that already has a girlfriend. This is how I've become. And what's worse is I fully accept it with open arms.
When Liam and I are together I always notice them near us. I see Danielle, Lia, Louis, a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes, a boy with curly hair and emerald eyes, and a boy with black hair and brown eyes sit by us. I feel oddly comforted by this.
I have never had an actual friend. I had Amelia when we were younger. But that was just sisters bonding, not an actual friendship. I've spent time around my parents' friends' kids. But they were not my friends. I smiled and laughed at their dumb meaningless jokes. But I was never those snobs' friend and they were never mine.
"Are you busy after school?" Liam asks me suddenly.
"It won't matter if I'm with you," I say. I stop and think about it. "I mean my parents won't mind if I'm with you."
Liam chuckles. "Okay, good. You're going to meet the others."
After school Liam lets me use his mobile to phone my parents. Father answers and happily agrees to me hanging out with Liam. If only he knew what we were planning to do then he wouldn't agree so quickly.
Liam leads me to his car and we drive off together. I stare out the window the entire time. I think about how I'm about to do the most taboo thing. I'm about to hang out with a group of shunned and rejects. I sound awful thinking that those are the terms I'm used to.
My actions are only expected. My parents pushed me too much and too hard. I'm unable to be who I want. Of course I would rebel. I think about how Amelia is turning out. This proves we're different. She doing much different things than I am.
"Are you ready for this Zoey?" Liam asks me for the hundredth time since I got in his car.
"Yes," I answer again. Of course I'm ready. They're only people, just like me. They're just people with different morals and thoughts than I'm used to. No biggy.
"Okay, good." Eventually he pulls into a driveway. As the car pulls to a stop I can't help but notice the huge house. It's so beautiful. The size is about the same as the house I live in. Meaning it's absolutely huge.
Liam gets out and goes around to open my door. "Such a gentleman," I tease. He smiles and helps me out.
"It's the way I was raised. Old habits die hard. Especially when I have to practice said habits everyday," he laughs.
We walk to the front door and head inside. I thought the outside was beautiful. The inside must be gorgeous then. Expensive furniture, paintings, statues, rugs, etc decorate the mansion. One look around and I already know they Paynes and my parents will get along nicely.
"You have a nice house," I compliment.
"Thank you. It's all my mum's doing. I think it's a bit too much," he admits.
"It reminds me of my house... Okay, I see your point. It's too much."
Liam laughs and says, "Let's go out back. The others are already out there."
