"Are you Jay's son by any chance?" I ask dumbly.

Louis smiles at me. "Yes, I am. Why do you ask?" He's cute, I conclude. I don't usually pay attention to boys because there's no way I'll ever be happy with one.

"I was just talking to her. It seems like she knows my family," I answer.

Louis nods. "You said your last name is Bernard?" I nod. "Yeah, my mum knows you guys. Our mums used to be best mates."

"Used to be? What happened?" I ask, letting the curiosity get the best of me.

Louis shrugs. "I don't know. All I know is that the only reason why my mum is nice to her is because she's fond of her daughter. I'm guessing that's you?"

"Either me or my sister. But I'm guessing it's me."

Louis laughs. He scoots over a bit. "We can share the spot if you want," he says. I nod and sit next to him. We become silent. I hate silence.

After a few more minutes I can't take it anymore. Everyone is either fake or quiet. I don't like it one bit. I hate the pretending. I get up and start to leave. Louis snaps his head up.

Where are you going?" he asks. His eyes pleading. I like the colour of his eyes. They're like a sea green and some blue.

I shake my head. "I have to go socialise. People are going to wonder where I am." I turn around and start to walk. I get stopped when Louis grabs my wrist. I look down at him. "What?" I ask trying to sound nice.

"Don't go. Please?" he begs.

"I have to. I'm sorry," I say. I finally loosen Louis's grip and walk away. I feel kinda bad about leaving, but I really do have to socialise. If my parents don't get enough compliments, they will completely ignore my existence.

I sigh and mingle with the adults. Playing nice with the children. Talk about my parents. Agree with the colleagues. Pretend to be perfect. That's my life. And I'm stuck in it.

As I walk inside to find my parents, I accidentally bump into someone. "Oh, I am so sorry!" I apologise quickly.

The man smiles politely. "It's okay, miss. No harms done."

"Are you sure, sir? I really should've been paying attention," I gush. Keep up the manners, I tell myself.

"Of course, dear. No worries. It was my fault," the man, Mr. Rodriguez, assures me.

"I'm so sorry once again, Mr. Rodriquez. Please excuse me, I must find my parents," I say.

He nods and I walk away. It's a good thing he isn't angry. It's a good thing because then my parents will acknowledge me. I find my mum with Ilene on a couch. Dad is still with Jeff and a few other men he works with.

I walk up to Mum first. She and Ilene were talking about their husbands. I roll my eyes. That's all these women do. They talk about their husbands behind their backs, but in front of them they brag.

"Zoey, can you please find Amelia? I would like to show her something," Mother says when she sees me.

"Of course," I smile. "I'll go get her now."

I leave to go find Amelia. We don't really communicate with each other, so she tells me nothing. Neither of us have a mobile so I can't call her. I go to where I last saw her. Nope. Not there. I go back inside the house and look around. I can't find her anywhere.

I go in the backyard again. I can't see her anywhere. I ask some of the guests if they've seen her. No one else knows where she is. Great. Mum is going to kill me.

"What does she look like?" a voice asks from behind me. I jump, surprised.

I turn to see Louis Tomlinson with a cup in his hands. He's smiling, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "Why?" I ask.

"I wanna know if I saw her. I'm trying to help, Zoey," he answers.

I sigh. "She has long dark hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. She's about two and a half inches shorter than me. Does that help?"

Louis thinks for a second. "Yeah, I've seen her."

"Really? Where?" I ask.

He points to the fence behind me. "I saw her go through the gate there. You better hurry."

I nod and bolt to the gate. It's unlocked and sorta open. I rush out and can't believe my eyes. Amelia is sitting on a blanket with a boy snogging!!

I know the boy. He's a high school drop out with vulgar tattoos and piercings. He's a no good slob. He gets arrested a lot for petty theft and possession. How could Amelia end up with him?!
