Mendes

~8 months later~

"Come on! You can do it!" Charlie encouraged Emily, who was trying to crawl across the hardwood floor. She cooed and grunted, giving it her all. "Come on my princess!" Charlie said, grinning. Emily's sparkling eyes were a deep brown like Selena's.

Emily gave one final effort and then collapsed onto her belly. She started to cry. Charlie scooped her up into his arms, rocking her back and forth until she fell asleep. Charlie put Emily to bed in the nursery.Then his phone buzzed. It was a text from Shawn Mendes.

'Do you miss her?'

Charlie didn't reply. He did miss Selena. So much it hurt.

His phone vibrated with another text from Shawn.

'When you miss someone, just remember their last words.'

That was terrible advice for Charlie. Selena's last words were: "I'm...going....to...." Then she died. Charlie stared at the phone screen, tears blurring the words before him. Then Shawn texted:

'Just remember that last time they said I love you...'

A emotional mess, Charlie threw his phone down on the floor. It shattered instantly.
Charlie wanted to feel angry but found that tears were unwillingly running down his cheeks and he was breathing hard. He dropped to his knees, and let the tears just fall.

He stayed in that position for a long time. He was sobbing silently, but his shoulders were shaking violently.

Then there was a knock on the door. Charlie got to his feet. He opened the door with a shaky hand.

It was Shawn.

Charlie slammed the door in Shawn's face.

"Hey!" Shawn called through the door.

"Go away!" Charlie said, through gritted teeth. Shawn banged his fist against the door. "No! Let me in!" he yelled.

"Never." Charlie said under his breath. Charlie locked the door and yelled, "Go! I don't want to see you Mendes! Ever again!"

Shawn's knocking stopped. There was silence. Then Charlie heard Shawn's footsteps walk down the driveway. Charlie heard Shawn start his car and drive away.

Charlie exhaled angrily and leaned against the wall. He slid down it and just sat. He heard Emily crying. He got up and went into her room.

As soon as he walked in, Emily stopped crying. She laughed and smiled up at him. Charlie smiled back, he couldn't help it. Emily was just so cute.

Maybe Emily could make him happy again, and make him stop sulking about Selena.
