(CHAPTER TEN)

Sunday morning rituals: church, brunch and then all day Call of Duty battling.

I had just gotten out of the shower and slipped into my Sunday best. I didn’t bother with the hats; I thought they were ridiculous, too big and far too flashy. I was wearing a nice salmon-y pink, chiffon dress that had a thick gold bow tied around below the chest. I stepped into a pair of salmon-coloured heels and tied my hair into a neat bun; hair spraying it into place. I put on some light makeup that consisted of some mascara, nude lipstick and faint eyeliner. I smiled at my appearance before heading out to church.

Luna Kylie and Alpha Aaron came to pick me up, along with Gabby and Kyle who were practically sleeping on each other’s shoulders. I punched Kyle’s shoulder and he jerked up, which in turn made Kyle’s shoulder smack against Gabby’s jaw.

“Ouch, you prick!” She exclaimed, rubbing her soon-to-be bruised jaw.

“Sorry Gabbs.” Kyle apologised tiredly. I rolled my eyes as I buckled the seatbelt.

“Thank you for taking me to church this morning.” I said leaning forward and resting my chin on the back of Kylie’s chair.

“It’s no problem, sweetie.” She said softly. “So? Did you hear from your mother yet?”

“Yeah; she called me yesterday.”

“How did things go?” She asked, all her attention on me and not Gabby and Kyle’s bickering.

“Great. Mum left me to stay here, because she knew I wouldn’t be happy in Victoria and I’m glad that she did. I wouldn’t have been able to cope being away from everyone here.” I answered.

“Oh good, good; I’m glad you’re staying. If you ever need anything, don’t be afraid to ask.” She said as Aaron pulled into the church lot. I smiled at how generous these guys were.

I got out of the car, fixed up my clothes and walked into the church. I dipped my index finger into the holy water and made the sign of the cross. I genuflected at one of the pews and sat my bottom next to Alpha Aaron and Luna Kylie, Gabby and Kyle following behind me. I prepared myself for the hour of singing, praying, and homilies.

Brunch; the very word screamed heaven.

We were sitting at a nice bistro-like thing on the seafront and watching the gulls fly around; waiting for our order to arrive. Mindless chatter was thrown around, usually questions on how school was going or how Gabby and her mate, Will, were getting along. On that topic, both Kyle and I were bitter and disconnected. I don’t know why Kyle was acting like that; maybe it was because he hadn’t found his mate or something. I didn’t really know that much about Kyle.

“So, have you found your mate yet, Marissa?” Luna Kylie asked me. I didn’t really hear her question because I got those weird tingles you get when your wolf can sense their mate. I mentally scowled; this day was perfect, until now that is.

I practically froze in my spot as I felt him get closer. My heart was beating furiously and my lungs were pounding, begging for me to let in a fresh breath of air. I followed its wishes and sighed in relief.

“Good morning Alpha Aaron, Luna Kylie.” His smooth, velvety voice called out. I suppressed a shiver.

“Oh hello Ian, Elizabeth,” I silently growled at her name. “What a surprise seeing you here today.”

“Just went out for a nice Sunday brunch. There’s nothing like it.” He answered.

“That’s exactly what Marissa says every time we go out for brunch after church.” Luna Kylie gushed. I shrugged, feeling every bit uncomfortable.
