Chapter 1- Rain Sucks

You wake up to water droplet falling directly onto your eyelid. You shoot up, pointing your knife around you, expecting an enemy. A few beats pass by, and your brain catches up to reality. You scoff and drop your knife. Rubbing your eyelid, you look outside the entrance of your cave to see rain. Great. Another day of being holed up in this mountain. Pessimistic as you may be, you're grateful for this roof over your head. Before you found this wonderful little cove, you had been wandering the streets, cold and restless. This place is safer, after all, it's hard to find unless you know what you're looking for. Or unless you're just that desperate.

You're snapped out of your thoughts by an angry growl coming from your stomach. You groan and crawl over to your 'kitchen' (a fire pit, a couple pots, a kettle full of water, and a basket for the food itself). Taking off the lid of the basket, you reach in and grab... nothing?

"Crap," you mumble. Looks like you're leaving the cave after all. You had run out of food days ago, but instead of worrying about it, you had shoved it to the back of your mind. You sigh and get up, popping and cracking your joints as you go. After changing, you brush your teeth and wash your face (you might be technically homeless, but you aren't a heathen). Leaving your (h/l) (h/c) hair down for once, you give yourself finger guns through your mirror. You giggle at your goofy shenanigans and slide your boots on.

You start the slightly dangerous (but mostly annoying and wet) journey down to Ebott town. Oh yeah, you're on Mt. Ebott. The mountain monsters emerged from about a year ago. Despite being perfectly peaceful, monsters are still being kept in the small town on the side of the mountain. Shameful, really. Humans need to get their act together. Not that you could talk...

'I could have refused. I could have... no should have accepted death.' you think to yourself, slowing down a bit. Almost coming to a complete stop, you shake your head and continue on. Be that as it may, you have no time to stop and think over your choices. Just keep going.

You eventually reach Ebott Town, and you stop to take in the smell of a bakery to your left. Walking closer, you peer into the windows. It looks so warm, and it sure as heck is way more comfortable than being outside in the rain. Plus, maybe they have some almost stale bread for you. You walk in and shiver at the sudden change in temperature. Its insides are decorated simply, with pastel themes. You look at the display case. All freshly made. They smell amazing. Sadly, they're not for you. You sit there for a while looking at all your choices, trying to decide what would be the cheapest. The baker, Mr. Perez, walks out from the kitchens to greet you.

"Well howdy there, mystery girl! What can I do ya for today?" You smile at his comforting appearance.

"Actually, I wanted to see if you have any bread that's almost expired," you explain, trying to sound confident, "figured I'd take them off your hands for ya. Do my good deed for the day." You can't help the slight sarcastic edge to your tone, but fortunately, he knew you and your sarcastic ways. He smiled and walked into the back, beckoning you to follow him.

"I think I can help with that."
