You look at Sans with a very confused face. Sans had brought a tall... goat woman? He gave you a reassuring smile and said "y/n, this is Toriel,  she has healing magic. She's going to try and fully heal your leg." "O-h! That's right-t! I-I almost-t forgot that she'd b-be coming. S-sorry for t-the mess, Y-Your Highness." Said Alphys, regaining her stutter. "Wait, Your Highness!?" you said, shocked. Is she a queen or something? "Oh no, I'm not the queen of monsters. Rather, the ex-queen." Toriel said with a patient smile. Why is the ex queen, of all people, here? How exactly is she gonna fix your leg?

"My child, Sans here has told me about your, uh, predicament. If you don't mind, may I see your HP? I must see how much magic is needed." "H...P? What's that?" you ask, cocking your head to the side a little, feigning ignorance. All three of them looked taken aback by your response. You blush and stutter, "I-I'm sorry, I ... I don't-t know or, uh-h, ... just-t forget i-it, o-okay? I-I..." Sans face moved to one of concern. Mission accomplished.

"Uh, well," started Sans, thankfully ending the shocked silence, but still send you questioning glances. "HP stands for Hope. More specifically, your hope of survival." Alphys nodded. " Y-yeah! All you need to do is , uh, let-t her check you, and, uh.... Yeah." she says, losing confidence in her knowledge towards the end of her sentence. You're starting to notice that she does this a lot. "Oh, right, okay." you say cringing inwardly at your own awkwardness. "For that I'll need your soul, dear." said Toriel.

You stare blankly at her, your obliviousness written all over you. You knew about HP, LV, and EXP, but souls? Father said souls weren't physical, rather a mental and spiritual term used to describe ones being. "Um, what? Souls?" You glance over at Sans, immediately regretting it. His eye sockets, which normal have glowing white irises in them, are completely black, his smile looking a lot more sinister. Alphys just looks plain confused. It seems your 'straight from a dictionary explanation is wrong. You look at the floor, ashamed. They shouldn't have to deal with you and your crap. You feel your blush from earlier spreading, growing to a deeper red. You were about to apologize again for your stupidness when you hear Sans' deep voice ring out over the room. "Tori, Al, we're going to need a moment." You look up in surprise. Sans eyes seem to have gone back to normal. The goat-lady and lizard look at each other, silently agreeing to obey.

You slide down against the wall, back into a sitting position. Still looking at the floor, you pull your knees up to your chest and hide your face. Slowly, Sans approaches you and sits down next to you.

"So. You don't know much, do you?" You shake my head, still hiding. "Well, what do you know?" he asks calmly. "So little I'm a real bonehead." You reply quietly, avoiding his question. Was knowing about 'souls' common knowledge? You had thought that HP, LV, and EXP were taboo. Maybe you were wrong. You wouldn't be surprised. Your diversion doesn't work very well, but Sans plays along anyways. "Heh, tibia honest, that was a very humorous joke." You smile to yourself at his joke. You've come out of your shell a little and are know staring intensely at the ground. Wow, that speck of dirt is really interesting.

After a short, comfortable silence, Sans stands up in front of you. You look up, curious. His face has an unreadable expression. "Alright, stand up, y/n. I guess I'll have to teach you how things work around here." Your confusion grows. What more could you need to know? Besides, the only  thing you know is how to run away, get hurt, and run away again... Okay, maybe you need a little help. You shake these slightly depressing thoughts away and stand up.

"Alright." you accept. He takes a step towards you and a brightly glowing f/c heart is pulled out of your chest before the world goes black. Sans retracts his magic and the blue nimbus around the heart is gone.

"This is your Soul, the very culmination of your being. You can move it around during attacks, but you need to move too. Some attacks are physical, and some are meant for your soul. Physical attacks won't hurt your soul at all, but the ones specifically for your soul can hurt your physical self as well. So don't think you cam protect your soul with your body. Classic, and deadly, mistake." You soak up all this information, filing it away for future use, but you can't look away from your soul. (Its so... pretty? How could that be you?) On the contrary, Sans seems to be avoiding looking at it for too long. You can't really tell, but you think you see a pale blue blush on his cheekbones. Weird.

"See those buttons? FIGHT is self explanatory, and so is Mercy. If you act a certain way, or fight until they're almost dead, the opponent may not want to fight anymore. Your opponent will only back down after being spared if their name bares a yellow color, but that shouldn't stop you from sparing." explains Sans.

"Then there are your stats. You can see your name, EXP, and HP here. Oh, and your-" "Love." you say softly, cutting Sans off. His eye sockets widen in surprise. "Y-You know what Love is?" he asks. You look away and nod slowly, silently throwing shade at yourself. Why in the world did you bring that up? You only know about it because... you have so much of it. Sans cuts the silence and asks "How?" "You really don't want to know." is the best you can come up with. He seems to get an idea and starts doing something. Over on his side, you see a screen similar to yours, forming a semi-circle around him. He gently taps Act, and still looking at your Soul, selects the option 'Judge'. Your stats show up immediately in front of him. His eye sockets go black when he sees just how high your LV is. We exit the battle and you collapse on the ground, ashamed. He walks over and sit next to you again, but this a little farther away, the last part making you feel worse. Sans is about to say something when you mumble "I-I can explain, just... its okay if you hate me afterwards."

You take a deep breath, preparing for a long and dangerous conversation, both of you oblivious to the metaphorical clock ticking away your time left among the living.
