JESSE
I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror of my small apartment and then glanced at my phone.
Should I phone?
Damn it, Jesse! It's just a girl. You've dealt with loads of girls before.
I took an unnecessary deep breath and dialled her phone number.
CRISTAL
I'm reading my favourite book on my newly changed bed until my phone vibrates on my bedside table. My hand reaches it and I check who it is and my heart flips;
Jesse.
I hesitate to answer the phone.
Should I answer?
JESSE
Why won't she pick up? Have I called too soon? C'mon. Please pick up. Please.
I pray that she'll answer. I'm on my day off so I'm free. I don't know why but I'm attracted to this strange appeal that she has. And I thirst for more.
But please. Just pick up.
CRISTAL
My fingertip finally taps the answer button and I press the phone to my ear. I try to speak but I can't say anything.
Short silence.
'Hello?' I hear Jesse say on the other line.
'Uh... Hi.' I managed to say
'Did I call too soon after our meeting?'
'No, no. You called at the perfect time, actually. I was uh... I was going to call you.' My body tensed up at these affectionate words that I was saying to him.
'Good timing then.'
There was an uncomfortable silence occurring on the line.
'So,' he started 'I actually called because I wanted to ask if I could see you again.'
My face relaxed and sunk into a smile.
'I'd surprisingly like that.' I smirked. I enjoyed teasing him.
'Cool. See you then, Cristal.'
CRISTAL
I quickly turned off the phone and collapsed onto my bed. Then I stood up onto my duvet and started bouncing like an idiot.
I'm nearly seventeen people and I'm bouncing on a bed like a four-year-old.
I should have known that my head was close to the ceiling, which I didn't of course, then resulted in me, banging the top of my skull, hard, on the roof. Ouch.
JESSE
I exhaled quickly, stuffing my flip-up phone into my jean pocket. That girl made me hungry for seeing her more. Why? Why is she different, of all people?
I've hardly known her.
