I pull the thin sheets over my head letting out a low grown. A knock on the door startals me. I let out another grown and throw the duvet away from my bare body. Somehow last night I had gotten out of my clothing. All of my clothes. I see my underwear across the room and my trousers in the door way. The knocking at the door stops. Grunting I rise to my feet and walk in to the kitching area carrying my heavy body. I grab a sashay of coffee front the gift basket still in the same place as it had been yesterday. The only difference was that now half of the contence had been removed and eaten. Several empty packets of crisps lay on the marble counter. I honestly do not remember eating them. Which annoyed me. I had been looking forward to eating the snack. Something new a whole new range of flavours but I can not even remember eating them never mind the taste. All I can do now is imagine or go and buy buy another pack.
Once I finish my caffeinated beverage I slip into a pair of dark blue jeans that look almost black with rips in the knees and a long white t-shirt then leave my room.
I have to stop three people to ask for direction on my way to the museum. I had the maps app on my smart phone but all of the road just seemed to blur into one. Take a right on burns and a left at the end of oak. But I couldn't see any street signs and the one i did see was not even on the map. I started to think know that maybe the app had been lying to me. I look up from my phone and see it the museum in all of its glory. A large building with two humongous lion statues sat on either side of the main entrance. Flocks of people entering and roughly the same amount leaving. It was marvellous. I jog across the road when no cars are coming and up the steps into the museum. A group of school kids wearing various colours of jumpers designed for the winter months stand in the middle of the first room gathered around a what looks like a teacher. All of them holding clipboards. I walk past them keeping my head down. They looked like teenagers a couple of boys being stupid in the back of the group.
I leave the room walking into the next one. The hall of dinosaurs. I didn't really like dinosaurs. Unlike other children my age I was highly developed and used my time to focus on reading book on the anatomy of animals. The hallway was almost empty and the people that where there were older. In my opinion dinosaurs didn't get the attention that they used too when I was a child.
Continuing down the hallway and into the next room I find what I came here for. The art. Dozens of paintings and photographs hanging on the walls and carved statues and models on podiums throughout the room. The painted canvass at college had done something to me. I had seen the meaning behind the colours and technique of the artist and now i couldn't get enough. One painting in praticulla catches my attention. The colours a similar colour the the painting in the cafè. A room with a deep red table in the centre a woman sitting at it with a wide smile . The edges of the painting where dark. In a kind of shadow. But there was something in the shadows at first I don't quite see what they are but then i Do, they where people. It was like they where living their life in the shadows while someone else was getting the lime light.
The seat next to me has a dark green cushion so I decide to sit and just look at the painting for a while taking in it beauty. The school kids barge through disturbing the once comfortable silence of the art gallery. I role my eyes and move looking at the rest of the art in the room. A stone carving of a naked man and a second of a woman that seemed to be holding an extremely small umbrella. But her face seemed panicked like she was in pain. It was amazing how much emotion the artists put into their work. I wish I had this kind of talent but instead I had been blessed with a photographic memory. Which did not come in handy at all unless I was revising for a test or some kind of surprise quiz that Mr Clegg liked so hit us with without any notice. Well I guess it wouldn't be a surprise if he told us know would it.
I slip my phone out of the pocket of my jeans and check the time, five pm. Shit I have to be back at the room for six. Kie had told me he would be coming around. I head for the door of the art gallery and catch a glimpse of a guy standing still starting up at the same photo I had been looking at moments ago. His eyes filled with passion. It's Bradley. Had he followed me hear. He sits down in the same seat I had his eyes still full of wonder. Maybe he likes the painting just as much as i do and maybe perhaps he was not as much as a narcissist as I once thought.
I leave the room before he has chance to see me.
Some time later and I reach the hotel with only twenty two minutes to spear I speed back up to my room and click on the television while I wait for Kie to arrive.
Knock. Knock. Knock. Kie's fingers graze the front of the door. I swing open the door and sure enough their he stands ready to take me out once again. At least this time he had told me where we were going. A nice restaurant down town. I mean at least were taking a step in the right direction.
"Anyone else coming" I ask sounding more enthusiastic with my question than I actually feel.
"Nope just you and me today Sammy boy" he says, I look away, there goes my teeth clenching once again. I follow him at out all the way down to the lobby and we jump into a taxi. Kie gives the driver the address of the restaurant and we set off. The man in the drivers seat had his long black hair tied back with a band. He does not speak once as we drive through the crowded streets and jammed roads. He takes a left and then another left and all of a sudden comes to a sudden stop.
"Kie I swear if you brought me to a sushi bar I'm going to slap you up your head" he looks a little taken back but soon smiles at me.
"Don't worry it's multicultural" he insists giving my arm a nudge to exit the taxi. He hands over a five dollar bill and i am once again left feeling a little guilty for him spending all this money on me. We take a seats at the far end of the restaurant and order our meals. I order the spicy chicken wings which Kie Says are what the place is famous for and he gets sushi of all things. Dunking his rolls into the wasabi sauce we talk until the sun fades behind the buildings. Getting closer and finally understanding a little more about his new life.
