Maybe a tiny spoiler alert and not accurate!

Y/N's POV

I was sitting in front of my screen, as usual. Everyday, I had to check on the Gladers. It's has been two years and they still hadn't found the exit. This month, we sent the little boy we called Chuck in the Maze. He was a terrified little creature who didn't need all of this, but the Chancellor Paige said it was necessary to "save humanity". Through a Beetle blade, I looked at them on a tree. They were all hardworking teenagers. I felt guilty for sending them there, especially because I knew them pretty well. Somebody pressed a hand on my shoulder and I jumped.

"Crap Thomas! Don't scare me like that, you idiot!"

He laughed at my comment and looked at my screen.

"Still nothing?"

"Nothing. Niet. Nada. Rien. It's even like they're moving backwards! I don't know what to do anymore. I tried everything I could but they're too stupid to see it!"

"It's not your fault Y/N. Stop acting like it is."

"But it is, Thomas. We created that Maze. Both of us."

He sighed and took my hand in his. He kneeled in front of me and smiled, his thumb patting the top of my hand.

"One day, it'll be worth it. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but someday, I swear it'll be worth it. Now get off your ass and come with me. Chancellor Paige wants to see us."

"Oh joy," I sighed.

"Let's go, doofus."

I pushed his shoulder playfully and ran my hand through his hair. We walked together to the Chancellor's office and knocked on the door. We heard few steps and the door opened.

"Finally!" Teresa said before she pulled us inside.

Paige was sitting behind her huge desk, her fingers crossed in front of her.

"Now that I have you all, I need you to sit. This may be not pleasant to hear for some of you."

I sat between Teresa and Thomas and crossed my legs. I nervously played with the hem of my shirt as the Chancellor examined us one at a time. She had always stressed me out, I didn't know why. Maybe because she just naturally looked mischievous?

"Since the Group A isn't performing very well, we decided to accelerate the process. The Group B easily completed the Trial when we sent Aris so–"

"Are you saying that one of us is going in the Maze?!" Teresa asked, shocked by the announcement.

"Not just one, but two of you. The Trial has to be completed in the next month if we want our tests to be useful. Thomas and Teresa, you'll get a special gift. You'll both be able to talk with each other through your mind."

"Telepathy." I whispered.

Paige nodded at my comment.

"Exactly, Y/N. Telepathy. You cannot refuse this offer. In the end, it'll all save the human race."

"What about Y/N? Is she coming with us?" Thomas asked.

The Chancellor gave him a disgusted look. Her face scrunched and she furrowed her eyebrows.

"No! Of course not! We need to use all the expertise we have for the Trials. Not that you two are useless or something like that, but we absolutely need her in the laboratory. She's the closest scientist to find a way to stop or even cure the Flare! But she needs a powerful brain. Just like yours, Thomas. And Teresa will only be there to help us augmenting your cerebral activities. Ain't it, Y/N?"

Thomas and Teresa glared at me. I felt my cheeks becoming bright red and bent my head.

"Y–You knew about this?" Thomas whispered to me.

"I'm sorry Thomas."

A tear rolled down my cheek and fell on my smock. Then, two guards came in and grabbed my friends. Thomas looked into my eyes and I saw that he wanted to cry too.

"I thought you were my friend Y/N!" Teresa shouted.

The pulled them outside and just before Thomas was gone, I whispered once more : sorry. Thomas closed his eyes and disappeared with Teresa. I buried my face in my hands and cried. Chancellor Paige stood in front of me and patted my shoulder.

"No time for this, Y/N. I've already had this conversation with you. Get back to work, we have a lot of things to prepare for the next part of the Maze Trial."

"Yes, Chancellor Paige..."

I'm thinking about doing a part 2, should I?
