He wanted to see. Thomas wanted to see. He wanted to know where they were taking the others teens. His instinct was telling him to push everyone out of his way and follow the others, but his dear friends were keeping him in his chair.

Ever since they arrived in that sort of safe haven, he'd seen teenagers all over the place, but as time passed, more and more faces never came back to the cafeteria. Except Janson's. That man was always there, watching. In Thomas' mind, he was planing something.

After he was sent to the dormitory with his friends and dragged in the air conditioning system by Aris, they ended up in front of a room, locked, of course. Once they had found their way inside, Thomas was dumbfounded. Bodies hanging from the ceiling, connected to different machines. He closed his eyes and wished they weren't corpses.

Teresa. His mission was to find Teresa before they could run away.

Looking at all the teenagers who were plunged in a probably never ending slumber, his heart rate sped up, afraid that he'd find his dear friend asleep forever.

His eyesight stopped when it met the frail body of a girl with pale skin and dark hair covering her face. He and Aris rushed to her, but once they were in front of her, none of them knew what to do. What if it was Teresa? And if it were to be her, would they be able to wake her up?

Thomas finally manned up and decided to push her hair out of her face. With a sigh that was filled with half-relief and half-desperation, he took few steps back, happy that this girl wasn't Teresa.

A small hiss coming from the door brought his attention back in the moment. Aris pulled him behind a pillar and hid behind another one as the intruder made his or her way through the room. Well, 'intruder'... they were probably trespassing the WICKED's orders more than the person who had just entered.

As the stranger walked nearer, Thomas finally caught a glimpse of his face. Janson. A face he had seen too many times before. Everything about him made a shiver run down Thomas' spine.

Thomas held his breath and tried to stay as still as possible. He couldn't afford to get caught just before his escape. But of course, Aris had to get stuck into some kind of wires and curse rather loudly. The younger boy immediately covered his mouth with his hand.

Janson quietly walked closer, scrutinizing the place with squinted eyes. As his steps became louder, Thomas silently cursed at Aris for being such an indiscreet human being.

As Thomas thought his chance to run away from WICKED was over, a mouse rapidly made its way from beside Aris to Janson. The man almost stepped on the small creature and emitted a grunt before returning to where he previously stood.

His fingers touched few buttons on a strange keyboard and a lady, who Thomas thought was dead, appeared in front of Janson. Chancellor Paige looked just as fine as someone who had just woken up from a nap.

Janson and the Chancellor exchanged few words before hanging up. The middle-aged man sighed and walked out without acknowledging the two boys' presence.

They had to get out of there. Now.

"That was a close one," Aris said.
