It was a normal day, well, as normal as Wonderland gets that is. The inhabitants strolled through the newly built town of Witzend, buying or selling, children played while others were having conversation.
In Marmoreal, the staff and court bustled everywhere, doing their daily jobs, the trees looked happier and so were the animals. But today it was busier than usual since they were preparing for a special occasion.
Alice was sitting in the dining hall with Mirana who chatted while going over a list of stuff needed for tomorrow. She was paying attention at first but her mind drifted off a while, stirring the tea.
"Alright so it's settled, I can't wait! It'll be the most amazing event ever!" Mirana smiled and rolled up the paper, "Alice are you listening?"
"Yes I've got it all stuck in my mind." Alice gulped down her tea, eager to get away and have some time to herself.
"Excellent, I'll have the maids come bright and early to help you." Mirana stood up and curtsied before leaving, hands flitting in the air in a graceful manner.
Grabbing the sketchbook on the table, Alice headed outside and sat under a tree, the petals softly fluttering down like confetti.
"Finally, peace and quiet.." She whispered, drawing the scenery before her until someone came up from behind, arms wrapping around her waist.
"Your terribly late for tea you know, naughty." A lisping voice chuckled in her ear, lips trailing down her neck.
"Am I? Well time can be very funny in dreams. Even reality." Alice shivered, goosebumps on her skin then pulled away slowly.
"Wha' was tha' fer lass? Do not drive meh madder than I am." Hatter pouted, his accent slipping out.
"Well you'll just have to wait till tomorrow night, it's tradition." Alice chuckled, giving him a brief kiss which he made last a little longer.
"Tradition be damned.." Hatter muttered under his breath, "Ah jus' wan' te have ye."
"I know, I do too but don't worry. Just one more day." Alice smiled, slipping her hand in his, intertwining their fingers.
They both took a walk around the castle grounds, talking and laughing like a couple would when getting to know each other more.
"So how is your family doing?" Alice asked, holding onto his arm and this time, at the mention of his family, there was no longer madness in his eyes but joy, sadly a hint of sorrow as well.
"They moved back into their old home. Starting up the hatting business in town again." Hatter responded, leading them back to the palace and inside where it grew quiet.
"That's good, I'm glad you have them back except-" Alice stopped, not wanting to remind him of his mother.
"Dear it's alright, the past is the past, she would want us to move on." Hatter gave her a small smile, obviously fighting back a tiny tear.
"Your right, I wish my family could be here to see me though." Alice sighed, not noticing the smirk on his face, "They probably won't make it."
"I have a feeling that says otherwise." Hatter gently patted her hand, the gears of thought turning in his head.
Alice opened her mouth to ask what he meant but stopped when she knew he wouldn't give away anything else. Besides they were already in front of her room.
"Try to get some rest my love, you'll have a lot to do." Hatter told her and sighed, seeming nervous.
"What about you? Are you alright?" Alice laid a hand on his arm, worried.
"Yes yes, Thackery and Cheshire are planning to take me out somewhere and knowing them, I should be nervous." Hatter laughed slightly which made her join in.
"Come on, go have fun, I'll be fine." Alice said encouragingly, "I should get some extra sleep, going out isn't really my thing."
"Goodnight Miss Kingsleigh." Hatter took off his hat and bowed, placing it back on his head.
"You know that'll be Mrs. Hightopp soon?" Alice giggled, whispering in his ear as he kissed her forehead.
"That sounds better, don't you think?" Hatter grinned and gave her one last kiss until they both pulled away, him turning on his heel and her twisting the door knob.
"Yes it does." Alice silently agreed as she closed the door behind her, going over and changing clothes then jumped into bed, sleep taking over her body to be fully rested and ready to become a bride.
