Part 10: Just like then

Before I noticed, our holiday was almost over. Members had came home and we had done lots of things together. Jimin had came earlier than others, announcing that "someone has to be here to take care of Hobi-hyung". We had gone to eat together and we had somehow met Haneul's parents in the restaurant. They came to talk to us so Jimin knew about Haneul. Next day, I went to them and we befriended. They said that they "loved my beautiful personality and bright smile." 

Meeting Haneul somehow changed me. With her, I felt different. Probably because she was only six years old, she was easy to be with. I suddenly noticed that I didn't have to think about my expression, words or acting like before. I didn't have time to think. 

I'm sure that Jimin noticed that change in me too. He used to cling on me every time that I came back from meeting Haneul. He smiled his beautiful angel's smile and used to stare at me when he thought I didn't notice. When other members came back, we hung out and I really enjoyed it. We all were happy to be together again and excited for upcoming trip to America.

Maybe my happines caused next events. Maybe it was something else. Maybe I was cursed.

Day before our flight to America, I left to meet Haneul. I wanted to ask her if she wanted anything as souvenir. I wouldn't see her in some time, since we were going to Australia after US.

I saw Haneul. She waved and shouted something to me. I smiled at her impatient appearance. She probably knew what she wanted from US. She turned to run across the road towards me.

Wait.

Across the road?

Suddenly everything changed to slow motion. Haneul's mouth moved slowly when she shouted her unheard words. Her hands were clutching her loved teddybear tightly and her feet thumped down on the pavement in slow motion. Off the sidewalk, across the first quarter of the road, second quarter, third quarter, to fourth quarter. Car's lights flashed, honk was heard and horrible screeching sound from the car's breaks.

Her smile faltered. Scream. Crash.

Blood. Blood everywhere.

I ran. Scrouched down. No no no no.

Emergency number. Emergency number. 119.

"119. What's the emergency?"

Haneul. Haneul.

[Line break]

"Mister, we need your information for police. As a witness. Could you come with us to the hospital."

"Mister?" Parademic's voice drifted to my consciousness. "Wit.. ness?"

"Yes. Didn't you see how it happened?" Right, I saw it all. "Yes."

"Could you follow me mister..? I didn't quite catch your name." She offered me halfhearted smile. "Hoseok." "Could I get your full name mister?" "Jung Hoseok." Parademic's face flashed in regocnition. "Did you know the victim?"

Victim? Right, Haneul was victim now. "We are friends." Parademic shot me strange look. What kind of idol was friend of a six year old?

[Line break]

I sat there, staring at my hands. My hands covered in blood. Haneuls blood.

My mind was blank. No emotions, no thoughts, nothing. I just sat there and stared at the dried red.

Just like then.

I almost jumped at the thought. I couldn't let those memories out now. Not after all these years. I thought I already made a mental lock so strong that my past wouldn't come to surface again. Why was this happening again?

"Haneul! Where's Haneul? Hoseok where is she?"

Haneul's parents had came. Her mother had panic in her eyes and voice. Mr. Ji ran behind her worried and scared. "She.. she.." I stammered. How could I tell them that their daughter was in emergency room fighting for her life. Just because I couldn't keep her safe. Just because I was there in the first place. If Haneul and I hadn't never met, she would be alright and in her parents' embrace. It was all my fault.

"I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry. It's all my fault."

I bowed deep down in front of two adults who were scared for their child's life.

Just like then.
