"I don't know when I'll be back," you told Drew as you sat on your bed to ease your foot into the black heels. "So in the morning, all of the boys should be up by five thirty. They're used to having breakfast cooked, but you don't have to if you don't want to. They got cereal."

You got to your feet and made your way over to the mirror in your room on top of your dresser. You picked out a lipstick color. "They have to be at the bus stop by six forty-five." You stopped before the color touched your lips and turned to your bed to look at Drew as you told her, "They shouldn't, but if they miss the bus, the school's real easy to find. You just take Carmicheal all the way down to—"

"(name)," she said and giggled as she placed her hands on your shoulders. "Chill. I got it. I can handle getting some teenagers on a bus, alright?"

You sighed and dropped your eyes to the floor. "I'm sorry, Drew. I know you got it. I didn't mean it like that."

"I know. I know. Just stop stressing, okay? I just want you to go out and enjoy yourself." She moved her hand under your chin and tilted your head up to look at her. She gave you a light, comforting smile. "For four days, I don't want you to worry about anything. You got that?"

Her soft words caused the corners of your lips to curl up a bit. Your eyes drifted back down. "Alright."

"Now, you finish getting all dolled up for that lucky youngster."

You hid your face in your hands as you turned towards the mirror again. "Uh! Shut up! It is one date. Stop making it a thing."

She chuckled and sat down on your bed. "Of course, I'm going to make a thing out of it. Your last date was fourteen years ago."

"Well, maybe you should have taken me out more," you told her then puckered your lips to prepare them for their color for the night.

She groaned. "After months away from home, I don't want to do anything but fuck and sleep."

You narrowed your eyes but continued to apply the makeup. "Uh-huh, but you weren't ever too tired to take your other girls out, right?"

"I was dating them. I had to bring them with me on trips. I would have taken you out too if you could have just came with me. I would have shown you the world, baby."

You rubbed your lips together and glanced her way. "Good save."

She smiled. "I'm serious, though. I wanted to take you everywhere. Too bad Lennie beat me to you."

You shook your head and searched your jewelry box for earrings. "Don't remind me. It sucks knowing how happy I would have been if I could have just been gay with you first. Why the hell did you have to take me to that club to meet Lennie?"

She shrugged. "I tried to tell him to chill, but somebody wouldn't let me talk to him long enough."

"Well, we could have remedied this whole situation if you would have just not taken me to meet him."

"You're right. You're right. I'm sorry, baby."

You slipped a metal bracelet onto your wrist. "You should be."

You spun around to Drew and held your arms out beside you. "I look nice?"

She signaled for you to come over. You took the few steps to be in front of her. She moved her arms around your hips and pulled you closer. "You look beautiful," she whispered.

Your eyes stayed on her hazel irises as they looked you over with a soft, wistful gaze. Her eyes met yours, and you held the contact for a minute as you dragged the back of your fingers up her arm to her shoulder. You leaned down, but she backed away.
