Drew decided to use the dining room table as her workspace. With her laptop open and tablet plugged in, she went about her morning as she usually would, drawing.

When six thirty came around, she noticed the boys lined up against the wall in front of the entrance to the living room.

She stared at them for a moment or two. "Uhm..."

"O-oh!" Gilligan looked to the floor. "I-I'm sorry. It's just a force of habit."

Drew got up and shook her head. "No, don't apologize, Gil. It's fine. I'm just confused."

Roderich rolled his eyes. "Damn it. I got used to that stupid drill shit."

"E-every morning, before we go to school, mama usually checks to make sure we have everything we need," Gil explained.

"Oh, uh...okay." Drew scratched her head and asked, "What does she usually make sure you have."

Lutz tugged on the strap to his book bag. "Book bag." He held up his house keys. "Keys and homework."

"Alright. Cool. You guys got all that?"

Roderich nodded.

"Y-yes, ma'am," Gil answered.

"Cool. Cool. So, you guys want to take the bus? I can drive you to school if you want."

"T-that's alright, auntie Drew," Gilligan said. "W-we're fine."

"Okay." Drew sat back at the table and turned her attention to her work. "Have a good day, boys."

The trio left the house, each walking at a different pace. Lutz led the way with Roderich making cautious steps to stay a few feet behind, and Gilligan pulled up the rear. The streets were quiet as they walked in silence.

Soon, music rocked the neighborhood from the confinements of a car down the street.

"And there's my ride," Roderich said on his way to the curb where the loud two-door pulled up.

The all black car rolled down the passenger's side tinted window. Smoke bomb-rushed the boys' noses.

"Yo!" Nigel called from inside the car, grinning at the three. "What's up, Lutz?"

Lutz only showed off his middle finger as he continued walking.

Nigel laughed and pointed his thumb out the window as he looked to Roderich. "That guy there."

Roderich got in the car, and Nigel drove off.

Nigel took another hit of the blunt in his hand and passed it to Roderich.

Roderich had gotten used to the morning routine. Most days when he got into the car with Nigel, he was smoking and would pass it to him. Going to school high always made him paranoid, but he wouldn't mention it to Nigel.

"Aye, dude," Roderich yelled over the music, so Nigel turned it down some. "I'm gonna be leaving soon."

"For real? Your dad back?"

"Nah, I'm staying with his friend. She's back in town. She doesn't live that far away, so I can still get to practice, but I'm probably going to a different school."

"What does she do?" he asked. "She in music?"

"She makes comics. Her last one was called 'Then The Shots Rang Out.'"

"Oh, shit!"

"What? You know it?"

"Hell yeah! That shit's dark as fuck. I ain't know her and DJ Alpine knew each other."
