A/N
Hey guys!

So this is my first Merlin fic. It will be primarily Merlin/Mordred, with a bit of Arthur/Gwen and lots of Merlin & Arthur bromance. It is set during and after season 5. It will contain some spoilers, and most of the early chapters are based off episodes. Some events in the episodes will be skipped so it might not make much sense if you are not familiar with the plot.

As well as my OTPs, music is a pretty major part of my life so a bit of various songs will be put at the top of each chapter, some relate to the chapter, others just remind me of Merdred.

Once again I don't own any of the characters from Merlin, or the season 5 plot.

I really hope you enjoy, it'd mean a lot if you dropped a comment with what you think!

I will keep quiet
You won't even know I'm here
You won't suspect a thing
You won't see me in the mirror
But I crept into your heart
You can't make me disappear

"If you're going to kill him, you'll have to kill me first."

Merlin's voice didn't betray the fear that was rising within him as he stared resolutely at the slaver.

"Merlin, step aside," Arthur's voice was weary, but he didn't sound afraid either, although Arthur never seemed to fear death.

"You know I never do as I'm told," Merlin replied, clenching his fist as he felt his magic swell.

The thought of Arthur seeing him use magic was more terrifying than the sword coming towards him, but there was no way he would let them both die to keep his secret.

"Stop!" A hard yell came from the trees a split second before Merlin unleashed his magic.

Merlin whipped his head around to catch a glimpse of their saviour, and was immediately overwhelmed by flashbacks of the prophecy showing Arthur's death.

Smoke, flames, screams and the stench of death - everything faded away as the raven haired man stepped into view. Betrayal covered Arthur's face, a second before pain as the other man plunged his sword into his side.

That very man stood in front of Merlin now, his eyes seeming to stare straight into Merlin's soul.

"Shouldn't we leave it to the Lady Morgana to decide their fate?" He asked in the same hard tone, his eyes briefly leaving Merlin's to glance at the leader of the slavers, then settling back on Merlin's shocked face.

The other man chuckled darkly and walked away.

Merlin's eyes followed the dark-haired man as he moved to Arthur's side and helped the King up.

"You don't remember me, do you? You saved my life once, many years ago."

That's when it clicked, of course. Merlin knew exactly who this was.

"Mordred," he said shakily, and Mordred turned back to him with a strange glint in his eyes and a small smile.

Mordred then turned back to the confused King.
