Come meet me ASAP
Dr. Paige

That was all the note said and I was going to abide by it. It had been left on my bed, on top of my pillow. It was an ominous looking slip of paper that wasn't signed on the outside but neatly folded to hide its contents. I haven't really seen Dr. Paige around now that I'm older. My mother felt that Dr. Paige was being too kind to me and so she switched my nurses around when Thomas arrived and gave her to him. Ever since then I've only seen her on occasion when I stop by the medical wing of WICKED.

When I get to her office, I'm surprised to find Aris and Rachel already there, shifting around on the balls of their feet nervously. Dr. Paige isn't there yet and when I walk in, I eye my friends curiously. "What's going on?" I asked them. Aris shrugged.

"We don't know, we both got the same note and I'm not surprised you have one too." Aris said with a shrug.

"It sounded pretty urgent so I'm surprised she's not here." Rachel said nervously, nervously biting on her fingernails.

"I needed to pick some things up." Dr. Paige said, breezing into her office with a large black bag. Teresa and Thomas walked in just as she set the bag down on her desk. "Good, you're all here now." She took a deep breath. "I'm about to tell you all something that does not bode well for this facility. Thomas has already noticed the absence of a person here and I'm sure some of you have as well." Now that she mentioned it... I haven't seen Dr. Avery in a while now.

"What's happening?" I asked. Dr. Paige finally looked up at us.

"There as been an outbreak of the Flare in WICKED." Her words struck me to my core. The Flare? In WICKED? "As you know, most of the doctors and scientists here are not immune like you all are. We have been diligently keeping our facilities clean, our food, our water but it's not enough and if this outbreak reaches beyond the third floor, none of WICKED's top personal will be here to see this blueprint through to find the cure we so desperately need."

"What do we do?" Thomas asked, his voice nearly a whisper. But I know what she wanted us to do. I could see it in her eyes. Dr. Paige wasn't immune and we were and if I was seeing things correctly, there were syringes in her bag.

"You want us to kill them?" I said, my voice low and even.

"Yes Mallory. Nobody else can." Bullshit. There's armed security and guards for this very reason. They may not be immune but... Aren't they supposed to be protecting us instead of us protecting them? "There are seventeen individuals we have suspected of having the Flare and..."

"We're only sixteen we can't do this." I looked to my friends for support who were also struggling with the news.

"I'm.. I'm with Mallory. I don't think we can do this." Thomas said. "Seventeen people? There's only five of us." Dr. Paige sighed.

"Six if I bring Brenda in. I'm not sure yet. She's immune but Jorge will be suspicious if I pull her out of her room this late at night. I'm trying to keep this under wraps. I don't want too many people to know."

"What does my mom think of this?" I asked. "Does she know we're going to do this?" Dr. Paige nodded.

"Dr. Prescott and I have had our suspicions for a while now that this facility is... Unclean. She proposed we get to the bottom of this. She's on stand by to gather the rest of the personal who aren't infected and get them somewhere safe." I almost wanted to laugh. My mom wanting to help people? It didn't sound like her.
