June 16th, 223"This isn't right." I hissed to Thomas as Teresa, him and I moved around the hallways quietly. Teresa hushed me but I wasn't going to listen to her. "They're obviously watching us. They'll know we've left our rooms."
"They left the doors unlocked." Thomas replied as we moved around the corner quietly, following Alby who was keeping watch ahead of us. "Have they ever done that before?" No. As long as I could remember, the doors had never been unlocked. I had tried many times over the years to escape my room, especially when I was younger and still doted on my mother. I had bad dreams pretty often; some about a father I've never known turning on me and trying to rip my flesh from my face. Other times I dreamed about scorching heat and grotesque monsters and whenever that happened, I was always compelled to try to leave my room to find my mother but the door was ways locked and no matter how hard I cried, nobody ever came to console me.
"No but... I don't like it. It feels like a trap."
"Of course it's a trap." Alby whispered back to me. "But who are we to not fall into it?" His optimism stunned me. I've never been excited about getting caught before. It was always too risky, too painful.
"No one has come after us yet." Teresa pointed out. I frowned. I always hated when she was right. I could tell my mother favored her out of all the other kids, even over me, and I resented her for it.
"Yeah, well they're going to." I muttered.
"Let's just get to the stairwell first, you can complain some more there." Thomas said encouragingly, patting my shoulder. I huffed and continued to follow my friends down the semi-dark hallways.
When we made it to the stairwell access in an old portion of the building that was barely used now unless it was an emergency, Alby pushed open the door and let the three of us walk in first. Raven, Minho, Aris, and Rachel we're already sitting around in a circle talking with one another quietly. They paused though when we came in.
"Took you long enough." Minho called out loudly, making Raven hush him.
"Someone could hear you."
"Oh please, they're listening to us right now." Rachel said with a roll of her eyes. "I have no doubt about that. There could be cameras and microphones all over this place."
"That's what I keep saying." I said defiantly as Teresa, Thomas and Alby moved to sit down. "We shouldn't be doing this. We're going to get in trouble."
"So it was Malls that was holding everyone up was it?" Minho asks I glare at him as a couple of them snicker.
"Hey, Mallory it's okay. Just sit down. If someone comes after us, you can say I told you so. Sound good?" Raven said with a soft smile. She had come out of her shell a lot in the year that I had known her. She was no longer shy or quiet but showing a bit more of her rebellious side. I didn't know how she could do it. I was always so afraid to lash out against everyone here. I was afraid of what they would do to me if I did. I couldn't really pinpoint why I felt this way, I just knew that something bad would happen if I disobeyed WICKED. Reluctantly, I sit down in between Aris and Raven.
"Okay, our first meeting has come to order." Minho said proudly, knocking his knuckles against the metal stair with an air of triumph. "Now, What should we talk about?"
"Did you hear how they're bringing in more kids?" Raven asked, leaning forward slightly.
"No, are they? How many kids do they need, there's already a lot of us here." Alby said with a frown.
