WICKED Facility

May 10th, 231"Is this really necessary?" I demanded out loud, carrying Gally's unconscious body out into the Maze with Brenda. He was heavier than he looked and although Brenda suggested we use a gurney, it couldn't fit into the small elevator, it hadn't been designed to do that and so the two of us had been forced to carry him across the field, into the partially completed maze and dump him onto the ground like a sack of potatoes. I wiped at the sweat on my forehead before looking up at the nearly completed holographic sky, imagining my friends sitting up somewhere in their control center watching us. "Come on Thomas, Teresa. Is this really even a good idea?" I knew they could hear me. They had released the beetle blades, which were up and running without much effort so it was only the Grievers they really needed to test drive and Gally was our frequent guinea pig.
"I didn't say it was a good idea but it is necessary." Came Thomas' smooth voice over the intercom.
"But these are our friends." Well, Gally wasn't exactly my friend, none of them really were anymore but it was just the principle of it all. "Well, I've never particularly liked Gally." I murmur watching as the artificial wind blows his dark hair back across his forehead. "But it isn't right to torture them like this." I didn't see how this was any different than what WICKED did to Minho two years ago. Thomas was supposedly so shook up after that that he didn't want to see another Griever chase down one of his friends and yet here we were.
"We're testing the Maze Mallory. It's not like he's going to remember it afterwards. He'll go through the Swipe." Came Teresa's voice next, sighing heavily at the end of her sentence. Teresa and I have never really gotten along. We may share a room but we don't share secrets or feelings or talk much at all unless she's asking if I want her to turn off the light. The two of us have different schedules, different personalities and different values. Teresa still seems to be one of WICKED's most loyal followers. Everyone else is a little... Apprehensive. Even Thomas has lost a lot of his luster.
"Well the Swipe isn't perfected now is it?" I said out loud, mostly to myself. Neither of them replied and I shook my head, running my hand through my sleek blonde ponytail. "We'd better get out of here before he wakes up." I murmur, heading for the open emergency exit door, hidden in plain sight beneath the ivy and vines. It was the closest exit to us, I wasn't about to walk back all the way to that boxy elevator.
"Or before WICKED sicks it's Grievers on us too." Brenda said, tickling my side and making me laugh a little.
"They wouldn't dream of it. I might just shut them down before they can get to me." Brenda grins as I open the door.
"I can't believe you put that failsafe in there." I shrugged, watching her struggle to pull the heavy metal door shut behind her. I walked back over and together, we slammed the door shut, hearing the gears whir as it locked.
"It's not really a failsafe, it's just a weak spot. They said I shouldn't make it indestructible, not that anything can really be indestructible." I mused. "Besides, it's in a spot nobody will think to check for. Nobody's going to shove their hands into one of those monsters, not if they think it's going to kill them." Brenda nodded.
"Wanna head to the control room and watch him run around like a chicken with his head cutoff?" She asked. I grinned.
"Definitely."
Gally was already running and screaming by the time we got up to the control room. Teresa sat diligently, staring at the monitors while Thomas had his feet kicked up onto the desk and was leaning far back into his chair. He didn't seem all that interested in what Gally was doing which was, essentially, just as Brenda described.
