GREEN GABLES HAS BEEN THE CUTHBERT SIBLINGS' HOME FOR DECADES UPON DECADES- and since early summertime of the previous year, it had gradually grown to be a comforting haven for the forlorn, though affable soul of Anne Shirley, too. The farm's whereabouts exist nearby a church building, with a shadowy spire rising up against a marigold sky. A small valley's gentle slopes enclose the Cuthbert's farmhouse, and views of the milky blossom trees on the shadowy outskirts of the woods could be seen from the topmost window of the building.

Green Gables occupies an expanse much smaller than Beaumont Close and the Barry's Orchard Slope; however, few have named it "The Most Beautiful Spot in Avonlea", due to Anne's detailed description of the Green Gable's charming appearance on a summer's afternoon. From the window of the bedroom, Anne described one day, she could look down upon the neighbouring stable, and when her eyes darted farther across the barn, she'd managed to see Diana Barry's home in the distance.

"Well, what do you think of it?" Anne exuberantly asks Kathleen Beauvais from across the garnished dining table, complete with platters of newly-picked grapes & apples, as well as stacks of mouth-watering cookies fresh from the iron stove. Anne's ocean eyes widen in ebullience, awaiting an answer in relation to the raspberry cordial she'd remembered to let the brunette try for the very first time.

The young girls sit with high spirits at the Cuthbert's dinette, as a successful result of persuasion from both of their guardians to approve Kathleen's overnight stay at her dear friend's beloved Green Gables. She'd been willing to set her eyes upon the exquisiteness that the farm was, following all of Anne's descriptions regarding it.

"Why, it tastes marvelous!" Kathleen declares euphorically, a beatific grin forming across her face. The brunette sets the now-empty glass upon the satin tablecloth her friend had laid out specifically for the long-awaited occasion. Anne exhales with relief as she claps her hands in delight.

"Oh, I just knew you'd like it as much as I did!"

A few moments later, Marilla Cuthbert hastens into the farmhouse kitchen as part of her daily routine, which involves sweeping the areas where Anne was too distracted to clean properly. The skirt hem of her ivory-coloured dress glides across the floor, and a shaft of golden sunlight projects her lean shadow upon the pale blue walls.

"Ah," she exclaims contentedly upon seeing the two. "I see the pair of you have finally decided to come in after basking in the sunshine for several hours!" The woman straightens her posture and places both hands on her hips, smiling warmly at the girls. "You've been out and about for quite sometime, by now I'd figured you'd left the country."
