Reese:

Idiot. I am a complete. Goddamn. Idiot. No wonder she walked out. She's probably flying around, cursing my name.

I just made this so much harder on myself. What is wrong with me? Here I am sitting on the bed doing absolutely nothing; except biting the inside of my mouth. I clamp down a little too hard.

"Ouch."

Just as I said that, Selene walked in. Avoiding me completely, she steers towards her backpack, scoops it up and heads to the bathroom. I sit quietly, listening to her rummage through it. a couple minutes later, she walks out clad in all black. She flicks her eyes to me. Her stare is unforgiving. I once again take in the long-sleeve shirt and leggings she has on. The only thing setting her outfit off is her shoes... enormous red rain-boots far too big to be hers.

She flicks her braid to the back and breaks my gaze, then she goes for the door. I see her wings already stretched through the slits of her shirt, then I jump to my feet.

"Are the both of you going to the cemetery already? I thought we were going after we gassed the house."

Without turning around, she gives me a cold answer.

"Jenna and I are going now. We thought it might be easier to prep."

"Well, can I at least help you do it?"

"We can handle this. I don't need your help."

I open my mouth to retort, but words don't form. I push something out anyway.

"I'm coming."

She turns her head just barely.

"Look, Reese; I appreciate you wanting to help out but I'd rather you do something else. It would be great if you could gather up all of our things and put them in the Volvo. Then you can drive to the house in town and wait for us to get there. The car has to be there anyways so it looks like we were there, but just make sure you wear gloves. No traces. We can handle the rest."

I am honestly appalled.

"You're being serious? Selene, I really think-"

"No. you don't. And if you're in on this then I suppose you bear with me."

She was turned around fully, looking at me dead in the eyes now. Unmoving.

"Fine."

"Thank you."

With that, she opens the door and steps out; though she looks clumsy in her boots. I close my eyes, rage bubbling through me. If I can't be there with her, how am I supposed to...? Shit. Was she gone yet?

I hear a door close lightly followed by low murmurs.

So they left me. Alone.

I'm going hunting.
