Selene:
I opened my eyes in the middle of the day. Reese was sleeping perfectly still next to me. I panicked for a minute when I didn't notice him breathing, but then I remembered. He can't. He's a vampire just like you, a voice in my head chimed. I looked at our joined hands. I still held onto his. I let it rest there. I stared at his limp wing laying over his hip. He was laying on the other. There was a ray of light shining through curtains. It annoyed me. I sat up from the bed, and stiffly walked to the window. My left hand grazed the light and stung, I looked at my hand. It was a little red, but it faded almost instantly with the pain. I carefully shut the curtains closed, and blinked to get used to the darkness. I spread my wings and stretched, then popped each one of my fingers. I crawled back into bed, then put my hand over Reese's again. He stirred. His eyes fluttered open and looked into mine. He smiled. He repositioned his hand so that it was on top of mine. I squinted my eyes contently. I scooted closer to him. It was too hot in the room. His cold hand on top of mine signified that he had cooler skin, so I let him embrace me, cooling my body. "Mmmm. That feels better." I whispered. He let out a confirming moan that he felt the same. "What time is it?" He mumbled "Its midday." He frowned, then groaned in exasperation. I giggled. I shut my eyes and let his cool skin slowly bring me back from my mini heat stroke. I was about to fall asleep when I remembered Jenna. I jolted up and ran to the door. Before Reese could say anything, I ran to the stairs with my wings shielding me from light. That's where she would be. It's dark there. I bolted upstairs and threw the door open. There she was. On the bed asleep. I walked to the bed and sat on the end. She moved. When she noticed me, she sat up. "Dude, I'm tired. What's wrong?" I stood up. "I just wasn't sure where you were." All of the sudden, Reese ran into the room. "Selene you scared me. Is everything okay?" I looked at his mortified face. "Yes, it's all fine, I just didn't know where Jenna was." He nodded, then started walking down the stairs. "Reese, come here." I beckoned. He turned, and sat next to me on the bed. "I wanted to tell you the plan for tomorrow night." Jenna tapped my leg, then mouthed to me, "He didn't know?" I nodded. "Wait what plan? What are you doing?" Jenna prepared herself, then explained everything. When Barry turned me, the house fire, and flying away. He scratched his head, then put his hand over mine. Jenna's eyes burned when he did. I shot a glare at her, and it sizzled away. Reese squeezed my hand. "I'm going with you. But I have to do one thing before I can. I gotta get my stuff from my home, unless we want to go there when we leave." I bit my lip. "Okay, where's your home at?" I asked. "It's in Colorado. In the mountains, about a 5-6 hour flight from here." That was doable. We could retreat there after the fire. It would be far enough away that no one would find us, and it's beautiful there. My grandparents own a house up there, too. Maybe we could sneak in there and relax. Hopefully. "I think that's a great idea." I said. Jenna rubbed her hands over her face. "Ugh, flying for 6 straight hours? We're gonna need to take breaks." I laughed. "We'll be fine. But tonight, we need to prepare. At least we can carry less since Reese is here now." He smiled as he looked at me. "I'm glad I'm here." He said. I grinned a little. "Me too." Jenna groaned. "Ew. Enough lovey junk, I'm tired as hell. Let's sleep while we can." We all huffed out laughs, then I went downstairs with Reese. We both climbed into bed. I stretched out. When I turned over and saw him, I asked something I had been wondering for a while. "How old are you exactly?" He looked down and raised his eyebrows. "Well if I've been counting correctly, I believe that it's 267." My mouth hung open. Holy shit. I didn't know he was that old. My gaping stopped and was replaced by a warm smile. "You've obviously had a lot of time to ponder things, huh." He nodded softly. He looked a little hurt. "I didn't mean it like that, it's just... I don't know how anyone could live that long without losing their mind. I surely would, with my thoughts and all." It slipped out. I shouldn't have said anything in the first place. He glanced up at me and furrowed his brows. "Come here." He embraced me and buried his face into my shoulder. I curled up beside him, but my legs remained outstretched. He hooked a leg over both of mine, then lightly sniffed my shoulder. "I didn't realize vampires could smell." He sniffed me again, as if he were inhaling a drug. He mumbled into my arm, "We can if we want to. Believe it or not, each vampire has a certain scent. People have said mine smells like campfire and pine. Yours is... unique. It smells like freshly cut flowers and citrus. It's lovely." I giggled a little. "Well I'm actually quite fond of scents such as pine and campfire." He purred "Are you, now?" I buried my face into his chest. "Oh, yes. Do you like citrus and flowers?" He sniffed my neck, now. "I love it." My arms snaked around his upper chest, and I pulled my head up to meet his stare. I sniffed the air, then his neck. "Mmm." It was glorious. It felt like running through pine forest and smelling burning trees, but the flames did not touch you. All you could do was bathe in the scent it brought. Earlier when the bond snapped, I had almost lost control with Reese. It took all of my power not to jump on top of him, or kiss his lips that made my shell of a heart ache. In my mind I'd established a boundary, but it was hard not to cross the line when you're in your mates arms. Mate. That word. That splendid bond that tied me to him. To Reese. He shoved the dark thoughts out of my mind, and replaced them with serene, calm starry skies. No one in my life had ever accomplished that task. But he did. He was a protector, a beautiful soul sent to me. To help me, and love me. I started to rub his back, minding his wings. He seemed appalled, but I was okay with it. This is what he was bound to me for. To chase away the darkness and light my eternity up with love. He slowly and carefully positioned his strong hands on my back, and dragged me to him until there was hardly an inch left between us. One of his hands rose up to my head, and twirled my hair in his fingers. I met his gaze. He leaned down, and gently placed kisses on my neck. If I had a heart, it would be beating out of control. His lips expertly traced up to my jaw. I arched my back. He pulled me even closer. He groaned as I ran a hand through his dark hair. I closed my eyes. In all of my 15 years, I had never kissed anyone. I didn't count Barry. I pushed him out of my head and focused on Reese. Reese. "Reese..." it escaped my lips. That sparked something in him. He started tracing his lips up to mine. Right before they landed, he paused. Then they came crashing down onto mine. It was utter bliss. It started out slow, then progressed in almost no time. I opened my mouth to his, surrendering to his kiss. He put one hand on my head, and the other on my waist. His fingers ran down to my thigh where he rubbed his hand. His tongue slipped into my mouth, then ran slowly across the roof of my mouth. I moaned. He laughed through the kiss. My hands roamed on his back. I put one on the side of his face, then traced my thumb over his cheek. "Selene." He groaned. His hips ground against me, again, he hooked a leg over mine. The kiss deepened. My tongue glided into his mouth. His grip on my thigh tightened. Before I knew it, Reese was on top of me, one hand next to my head, and the other next to my waist. One of my arms was bent above my head, and my other was laying next to me. Reese was crouched over me on his knees and hands. He looked at me with such intensity and desire in his eyes. Mine were wide open as he got onto his elbows and leaned down. His lips gently pushed into mine. I slid my arms around him. My wings were spread out beneath me. His were folded tightly to his back. I paused for a minute, my hands still on his back. His kiss still lingered on my mouth when he peeled his lips from mine. "What's wrong?" I showed him. I started tugging his shirt off so he could open his wings. For me. When I finally pulled off the shirt, Reese smiled. He kissed me one more time, then pulled away so I could marvel at his enormous wingspan. They were magnificent. I saw each and every vein running across, and the silky dark skin that stretched out above me. I ran a finger down the edge of his right wing and smirked. I was so caught up at looking at his wings, that I almost didn't notice his body. He was muscled so perfectly, I could see sweat beading on his chest from the intensity of our kisses. But then I saw the scars. Each one more gruesome than the last, I blinked a tear away. I didn't want to know how they got there. I didn't want to hear my mate tell me the hideous stories that went with each. I couldn't listen to him tell me about his pain. I couldn't bear it. I looked at his navy eyes. They looked like inky smoke flowing about. I stared at his lips. He grinned, then kissed me more. I moaned. "Reese." He purred out my name, too. His hand that was boosting him up stayed put, but his other one... it started to make its way slowly up my shirt. I laughed on his lips. "Naughty, naughty." He pulled away only to say, "I have my shirt off, I'm just making it even." Then proceeded to kiss my lips while steadily pulling my shirt from my body. We had to stop so the shirt could be removed from my head, once it was, I stopped. I was so exhausted. "How about we continue this while we rest." Reese grinned. "Whatever you wish." He laid on his side, then gripped my shirtless waist and pulled my back into his strong body. His hands started at my shoulders, then slid down to my bare chest. I stifled a moan, but arched my back at his touch. I closed my eyes, tired. He lifted the sheets over our shoulders as he started to run his fingers over my breasts. He sniffed the crook of my neck, then rested his chin on my shoulder. "I can't believe I found you. It's just so astounding. I'd been searching for something, or someone to fill up this hole I've had, but I didn't feel a drop of anything until I met you. You're utterly perfect." I'd been waiting to feel appreciated by someone for as long as I can remember. Reese is the only one who actually did appreciate me. He made me feel... complete. "Thank you, Reese. For... everything." It felt so nice to be wanted. I soon drifted to sleep in the his cool and perfect embrace.
