- Chapter 26 -
**LENNO'S POV**
Healing
I wake up when she’s here. This is the third time I see her, and I’m already used to that. Like you wake up home everyday to find your siblings. I wonder if I’ll see her everyday after we’re out of here, I wonder if she’s really coming with me, and even if so, I wonder if I will meet with her on my land.
“Morning, Lazy Lenno,” she says dropping the leather satchel in my arms.
“Morning, Crazy Catori,” I stick out my tongue–something I haven’t done in a long while.
“Hey, I don’t know, but I think we better hurry,” she says suddenly, the smile vanishing from her face.
“What do you mean?” I ask.
“Maybe we should leave tomorrow, or something, maybe today if we could, even.”
“Why? Is there something wrong?”
“I don’t think I can hold father’s guards for long,” she runs her fingers through her hair, “we have to leave as soon as possible.”
“So what do you suggest?” I try to sit up.
“We should leave tomorrow,” she says seriously. “I brought you a bigger quantity today, and you should, please, do your best. We’ve got to get out of here.”
“Okay, okay, we’ll leave even if I don’t fully recover. I promise you I’ll do my best.” She gets up and smiles at me before jumping back into the hole. I wait for a short while and then refill the hole with dirt.
I open the satchel and find she’d brought be a piece of cooked meat this time. It’s been more than a month since the last time I’ve tasted meat. I take a bite of the rabbit’s leg and it tastes like energy, like freedom, and like all the things I’m longing for. There’s also a carrot, corn, and two bags of the creamy medicine.
I take out one bag and start applying, already feeling the improvement. Swollen parts are almost healing, bruises are getting a bit better, and the wounds are on their way. Maybe today is really enough for me to heal, not completely, but at least to be able to walk. Catori has already done so much for me, but out of this cell, out of this door, it’ll be my turn to protect us, and take her back home safely.
