- Chapter Thirty-three -

**AKANDO'S POV**

First Sparkle

The next morning comes quickly, pushing the last bits of yesterday’s confusion and mixed feelings away. I don’t feel like ever getting out of home today, I don’t even know what to do when I see Lenmana. Things have gotten back to normal, if you actually call Lenmana being taken from me is normal, so yeah.

Maybe she’s having some problems with Lenno and Hakan right now–okay, and the entire universe including me–but Lenno and her will soon be back to each other, and then things will really get back to normal. But me? My situation is the worst. I’ll just have to stay my whole coming life proving what Nara had told her wrong, I don’t want her to feel sorry for me, or feel guilty because of me. I don’t want her to be with Lenno thinking she’s doing something that hurts me.

I was just on the right track, showing only the brotherly side of me. The side she knows and loves. I wasn’t ever planning on telling her that I love her–even if that wasn’t the case before–but after I knew Lenno’s the one who has her heart, I swore to keep that a secret.

However, and although I can’t bear talking to Lenno, I’ll have to explain everything about Lenmana’s marriage to him and fix things between them. It seems like I’ll be doing the most difficult mission assigned to anyone on Earth, but there’s no other way if I want Lenmana to be happy. Maybe with Lenno’s help and mine–together–we can free Lenmana from that prison (aka Hakan).

This is not going to be a smooth day, today is empty of breezes, and we’ll only know hurricanes.

I keep counting the problems we’re facing, the issues we’ll have to deal with, and wish I could just pull the covers over my head and sleep.

There’s Nara’s and Tula’s issue, Ahiga’s issue and the Celebration, the Cannibal’s issue–maybe a war as well. There’s the entire Eyote tribe to deal with. Then the leadership problem of course, Orenda won’t let what Lenmana did just pass. Last but not least, the personal problems: Lenmana and Lenno, Lenmana and Hakan, Lenmana and me, Lenno and me.

Ugh. I don’t know how life coils around our necks tightly and that suddenly. I don’t know where to start, or how to start.

But I find myself getting up, and walking to the main square where the gatherings are held. I find lots of people gathered there, but I haven’t heard Lenmana was planning a gathering.

Almost the whole tribe is here.

Down with the reckless leader!

Down with the merciless rule!

What? No, no, no.

Lenmana.

I force my way through the crowd and try to get a better look of the stand. Too many arms are raised and fists hitting the air. Too many angry shouts are going through my ears, and I want to get to Lenmana.

People’s anger is scary, people’s anger about something which is false is even scarier. Where the heck is Lenmana?

I keep pushing and shouting at stupid people who won’t move sometimes, and apologize for people whom I’ve shoved some other times.

And suddenly I’m in front of the stand. And I almost choke on the air I’m breathing. But why am I even surprised? This is the only person I would’ve expected to find here.

Orenda.

“What happened lately on this land is unforgiveable and unforgettable. This tribe does not deserve such a reckless leader. She’s too young to be able to take a whole tribe’s responsibility or her even her own. You should wake up, people, get to choose your leader, and have things going your way. You’re no slaves, Eyotes! You’re the masters.”

People roar and applause. And I don’t know why my legs can’t run any faster.

Of course Lenmana knows nothing about this. What a wicked woman this Orenda is.

“LENMANA!” I’m knocking with all the force I’m given on her door. I call her a few times until she opens up.

“What’s wrong?”

“You have to see this.” I say. “Wait, where’s Hakan?”

“He hasn’t came to bug me this morning, I don’t know where he is.” she yawns.

“Of course he’s not here!” I pull her hand and walk quickly, “He’s done what he’s married you for, and now there’s no need to go on with the play.”

“What are you talking about?” she asks, “Did he tell you something?”

“There’s an uprising, Lenmana.” she lets go of my hand.

“What?” she shakes her head slightly, “What are you talking about?”

“There’s been an abnormal movement this morning, and when I went to the main square, I saw people shouting, threatening to overthrow you. And then there was Orenda giving out a speech.”

“No . . .” she gasps.

“I’m sure Hakan is with her. I’m positive he has something to do with this.”

“Where’s Lenno?”

“Why do you want him now?” I ask, getting upset.

“He has to be with me.”

“Am I not enough?”

“You are enough.”

“Yeah, whatever.”

“Akando?”

“Let’s go.”

“Lenmana have you heard what’s happening?” Lenno comes running towards us.
