My name is Rylan Foster. Boring name for a boring girl, is what most people think. But I am the complete opposite of boring... well, on the inside. On the outside, I am just a plain, average girl with flat brown hair, who wears the same plaid shirts everyday. But on the inside, I have a lot going on.
Since I was a little girl, I was always interested in myths and fairy tales. I thought that somewhere out there in this cruel world, there was a tiny, isolated town where all of the forgotten creatures lived in peace. Where they socialized and made friends, like us humans. But as I got older, those silly thoughts faded away into the dust, and my thoughts were clouded over with misery and pain.
My dad left my mom, my baby sister, and I when I was 9 years old. He had found another woman, which he discribed, 'Was everything my mom wasn't.' "Beautiful,"He said, "Hot, charming, a stripper ." This tore my mom into pieces from top to bottom. She wasn't the beautiful, calm woman anymore. She had morphed into a monster. Going to clubs every night and not coming home til 3:00am, taking drugs, loosing her job. She even tried to become a stripper once because of what my dad said, but it didn't work out for her. She neglected my sister and I and sometimes abused us. It was only a year later when she lost custody of us and we were sent to a orphanage in North Carolina.
That was the turning point for me.
The dark, roaring clouds of depression slowly started to fade away. It opened up my mind and I started studying those fairy tales and myth characters again. By that time I was 12 and didn't have a lot of friends because I was weird and awkward. People never actually told me I was weird, but I could tell by their facial expressions that they were creeped out. I looked up many websites on the creatures and checked out a lot of books from the library, just to find out the truth. For me, stepping into the fantasy world seemed to trap out all of the bad memories of the past.
Now, I am 16. And I am still obsessed with those silly, made-up monsters. But luckily, down at the orphanage, I have made a lot of friends.
About 2 months ago, a boy, my age named Hamilton showed up at the orphanage. Just to visit. He found me, in my room and we striked up a conversation. Me with my shy, awkward self told him about the fairy tales and my research. The reaction from him wasn't judgmental, it was understanding. Even though he had just come for a project for school, he started coming almost everyday. And that's when I got my very first bestfriend.
And to be honest, if I could change anything in my life, I would say no. Absolutly not.
Thank anyone who hung in there and read the whole thing. I know it is a lot to take in, but this is just a backround story about 16 year old Rylan and her life, so you don't get confused when any of the characters start talking about it. The first chapter is going to be much more organized and stuff, so yeah. If you liked it comment and any missed spelled words will be fixed.
Thank you
