A Feeling (Moana X Maui)

My eyes widened. I couldn't speak. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My breathing picked up.

"To be honest, I wasnt doing anything important out there this past month.... I..... I wanted to think..... about you.... And me..... I should have told you before.... I am in love with you and I have been for a while." He leaned in close.

"When?", I managed to get out. My heart was beating fast.

"Remember after we escaped from Lolotai? Well, when, I was all upset and you comforted me, I felt.... odd. I felt something warm in my chest but I didn't think about it much. But then, at Te Fiti.... I felt it again..... I said that I was nothing without my hook but, honestly? I was terrified. I didnt want you to get hurt if my hook did break. I was scared for you and scared of my feelings. But you....." He placed his hand over my cheek.

"You went anyways. Without me. I had to help. I should have told you after we succeeded but, I couldn't. I left to get my feelings straight. I knew that I loved you. And I knew I'd see you again." I looked at him, tears in my eyes, a smile on my face, and said,

"Maui, I love you too. I just.... didn't realize it yet." His breath caught. His face came so close to mine.

"Moana.... Please.... Will you marry me?" I nodded.

"Yes. Yes, of course.", I breathed. Maui grinned, happily and closed the gap between our faces. His lips enveloped mine in a heart-melting kiss. His fingers tangled into my hair an securely attached my face to his. His lips were soft and eager. I never thought my first kiss would be with Maui of all people. But here it was, happening. It was nice.

He pulled his face away from mine and looked at me. He grinned, happily.

"Now, believe it or not, we actually have something to be doing. C'mon. Get on the boat." He stepped away from me and gestured to the canoe. I took a shaky breath and climbed on. Maui pushed the boat into the water and hopped on. He opened the sails and we were off. I gazed dazedly off into the distance, trying to put everything together.

Did that really just happen?? Maui... I was going to be married.... to him... I couldn't believe it. I smiled to myself as we crossed the reef. I turned around and looked at Maui.

"So... What are we doing?" He was quiet for a moment as he measured the stars and adjusted our position. I remembered when he was teaching me how to do that.

"You're measuring the stars, not giving the sky a high-five."

"Well, princess, we are going to the palace of the gods. They have a mission for us." My mouth dropped open.

I know it's short but yay!!
