(Maui)
It had been a while. Not really to me but to a mortal? Yeah. I had been gone for about a month. I had seen Moana as a hawk or ocean creature from afar, keeping tabs on her. To be honest? I just enjoyed watching her lead her people. She was a natural.I had just returned from a far off island, slightly troubled. I had received a message from Puhaorangi, the celestial head of the gods, summoning Moana and I to the palace of the gods. They wanted us for something and I knew it.
I was in hawk form, circling around Motunui, searching. I saw a familiar form on the beach fixing a boat. It wasn't the same boat from when we first met, it had different designs on the sail. I watched as she yawned and looked up. She looked right at me and grinned.
"MAUI!!!", Moana yelled. My heart skipped a beat when I heard the elation in her voice. I dived down and yelled,
"CHEEHOOOOOO!!!!" I shifted back to human ten feet above the ground and landed in front of her with a very loud noise. I grinned and flung my arms out to the sides.
"I'm back, baby. Did ya miss me?" She surprised me by running into my arms, knocking my hook out of my hand. She let go of me and tried to move away.
"Ack, sorry Maui, I-" I cut her off by wrapping my arms around her, tightly. How I missed her.
"I missed you, kid. It's kind of lonely out on the ocean, alone." I couldn't see her face but I felt it heat up. I knew exactly what kind of reaction she had.
"I missed you too, Maui. Its been a while....", she mumbled into my chest, the vibrations from her talking tickled so I placed my hands on her shoulders.
(A/N: AHHHHHHH OMG I WAS HACKED AND I DIDN'T REALIZE IT. THEY DECIDED TO BUT A BULLSHIT LITTLE LINE RIGHT HERE AND I'M SO SORRY)
I studied her, seeing what had changed over the course of a month. She had matured. In... many different ways. I had to tell myself not to stare multiple times. I was smiling at seeing her again but, then I remembered what I came back for and I frowned. I turned my gaze to the beach next to us.
"What's wrong, Maui?" Moana's voice was concerned. I looked down at her. Should I tell her? I should. But.... I leaned down and grazed my lips against her ear. I felt her go rigid. I said,
"I'll tell you later... Just, be prepared for anything." I turned around and walked down the path leading towards her village. I assumed Moana would follow me but, I guess not. I reached the edge of the trees and leaned up against one. What was taking her so long? Did I scare her? What could she be doing?
She emerged from the trees and looked around. She spotted me on the tree. I said, nonchalantly,
"Hey, princess. What took you so long?" She stuck her tongue out at me. It was amusing.
"I have told you before. I am not a princess. I am the daughter of the cheif." She gave me a stern look and turned around. She started to walk awya so i gabbed her hand, pulling her to a stop. She looked at me and I winked.
"Shall we tell everyone that Maui has returned from his long and dangerous journey?", I said, joking around. She laughed.
"Yeah, add in a couple of dangerous trips to Lolotai and encounters with angry gods." I threw my head back and laughed. It was so loud, that it drew the attention of the nearby villagers. Moana tried to pull her hand from mine, but I just held it tighter.
"Maui! Let go!", she hissed, still trying to pull her hand away. I smiled at her discomfort. I pulled her through the village. I glanced over at her face and it was flushed. Was she embarrassed to be seen with me? Or was it the fact that I was holding her hand?
"Maui!!! People are staring!!!" I assumed that it was both options.
"Let them. I don't care." I looked down at her, my eyes narrowing slightly. She sucked in a sharp breath. I pulled her to the large hut that I assumed was the meeting place. She yanked on her hand again and I let her. Probably not a good idea to let her dad see me holding his daughter's hand especially with what I was about to ask him. The place was full of the council, I presumed. They all looked up as we walked in. They quickly stood and bowed. I looked at the man, i knew to be Moana's father, right in the eye and said,
"I need to borrow your daughter for a week or two." The council members started murmuring among themselves. Moana's father, on the other hand, was calm and cooly looked right back at me. He respected me, he saw me as a person, not just a demigod. Moana must have told him about me.
"What's the problem? Why do you need her?"
"May I talk to you for a moment? Alone?" I went up to him and we faced away from the council and Moana.
"Why do you want to take my daughter? You can, but I want to know why."
"I have a message from Puhaorangi, summoning us to the palace of the gods."
"Well, you can't ignore that. Why did you want to talk to me alone?"
"Well, I wanted to ask you something that, as Moana's father, only you can answer...."
"And that would be?"
"May I have your permission to marry Moana?"
"You want to marry Moana? But you're a demigod. You are immortal."
"I know. But there are ways we can be together. I love her and I can't deny those feelings. I want to be with her forever. Can I marry Moana?"
"Yes. As her father, I give you my permission."
"Thank you. You don't know how much this means to me."
"Just take care of my daughter, Maui."
"Of course."
We turned around, I was grinning ear to ear.
Moana's father cleared his throat and said,
"You may go, Moana. Just..... be careful." She embraced him and turned to me.
"Shall we?" I pulled her out of the hut and over to what believed to be their supply hut. I was correct for the second time. I started grabbing food and other items for the journey. I bunched them up in a sack and tossed it over my shoulder. I grabbed her arm once more and pulled her to where they kept their boats. That, I knew where it was.
"Woah, Maui! Where are we going?! What is going on?!" I stopped and tossed the sack into the boat that we had used on our first trip. I had to tell her. I just had to. I turned to her and pushed her up against the stone wall. My arms ended up on each side of her head. She stared at me with wide eyes.
"There are two reasons I wanted you for a couple weeks. I told your dad both of them. He approves of both. One, the least important one is pretty dangerous. But, the second one....." I stopped, thinking about how I should phrase this. I stared into the almond brown eyes that I loved.
"I asked your dad if...... If I could marry you."
Hi, I know this is probably not what you were expecting but I thought you'd like a chapter on Maui's perspective. I probably won't do something exactly like this again. Of course I will do Maui's point of view. It's quite important to the story. But, next time I do his perspective, it will continue the story. I will get the next chapter, in Moana's point of view, out soon.
