Summer’s POV
My eyes were glued shut. I had been living in the darkness for a few hours and everything was a blur. As I struggled to remember the last thing I saw but a throbbing headache came crashing through my skull. I moaned in agony and decided to dismiss it but it was no use. The more I struggled to recall what had happened, the more my head throbbed continuously.
Finally giving up, I laid on my back, having a good view of my surrounding. It was white, or maybe too white. An IV tube was stuck into my arm. I was in a hospital.
“Great,” I mumbled sarcastically. My body was sore but there were no signs of bruises or swellings.
“Oh my god,” someone spoke. My head snapped to the source of the voice and I was astounded to see my parents standing there. They came forward and hugged the life out of me.
Mother had gone old, so did Father. They had wrinkles on their faces and they looked glum. What was wrong? Why are they so miserable?
“You’re awake!” Mother choked as tears dropped from her once wrinkle-free face.
“Huh?” I asked. “What do you mean?”
Father, who seemed to be fighting with tears said, “You were in a coma for 2 years.”
My jaw slacked.
“What?!” I screeched. “Two years? Are you for real?” I asked, still in astonishment. What happened to me?
Then everything came back. Those awful memories and the last thing I recall was me lying on a sticky substance which smelled like rust.
Dan, my mind spoke. The name echoed in my brain. And those golden eyes were the most vivid memory I had.
“Someone tried to kill me, I think it was Dan,” I said out loud. The screeching noise was embedded into my skull. It was scary but I took it for granted. I was almost certain I heard a whimper coming from the room. But I dismissed it.
“Are you sure? The cops took him to custody but he had an alibi. He was free to go.”
Something in the back of my mind broke. It can’t be Dan, can it? Dan’s eyes were ocean blue with specks of orchard green which made it unique and tantalizing. By the ones I saw were gold. That won’t be a good reason.
However, something still tells me it was Dan who planned it. My gut told me so, even my conscience said so.
He might think I’m a shy girl, a miss goody two shoes, but what he doesn’t know about me is that I take retribution seriously. And nobody gets away with it.
It was Dan, it must be. The noise, the scrapping sound and the every so soft whimper of a girl coming out from his room, it must be Dan.
Well, I’m going to find out myself.
“Bring me home.” I eyed my parents.
They nodded and Father spoke to the doctor who was in charge of me.
Alas, I was heading home. But there was someone else waiting in my house, lurking in between the shadows, sharpening their knives, and waiting for my death.
Dan’s POV
My girlfriend was sitting on my lap, playing with my hair. Her skin felt smooth and delicate under my fingertips. She was straddling me and trailed kisses around my neck.
A shiver went up my spine and she moaned softly.
She was the prettiest girl I’ve every seen. And she could be the bitch when it comes to bossing people around. But I never gave in to her.
My hands slipped around her waist. She stopped and looked up, eyes glimmering. Our lips were a breath away. Slowly, we inched towards each other.
Then, the damn phone rang. Her gaze flickered to my phone. I sighed and looked at the screen. It was him.
“Babe, I need to get this,” I fought to stand up but she held me back.
“No,” she whispered and continued taking my breath away with soft kisses.
Relenting in, I threw my phone on the table and ignored it. But my gaze never fell from the message. My eyes widened and my girlfriend immediately tugged my shirt.
“What’s wrong honey?” She said seductively but it came out rather meek. “Am I not good enough? Do you want more?”
“No,” I said. “Continue with that.” I gave her a reassuring smile and pecked her lips.
On the screen, it read:
She’s alive and coming home.
