Summer’s POV
The first day of school wasn’t that bad at all, to be honest. Well, except for the part where I met Dan. The teachers treated me like a queen, especially the school principal. What else? A surprise test by Miss Mason was canceled.
Well, not exactly.
My classmates still had to have that test except for me. I was about to die from intense boredom whilst sitting aimlessly since cell phones were prohibited in her class. Occasionally, I tried making eye contact with Dan as we sat near each other during Miss Mason’s period. He didn’t even take a glance at me! I noticed a blond girl following him like a hound earlier in the corridor. She must have been my replacement over the years.
That dirtbag.
Now, strutting towards my locker, neither of them was here, which was a blessing to me. I stood by locker, contemplating whether I should talk to Dan about what happened just now before class. It felt bad having to humiliate him in front of everybody. However, I can’t deny I still had that blissful and tingly sensation when I recalled slapping him. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
And I was the first one to embarrass him.
Dan. The. Hottest. Boy. In.School. Embarrassed. By. Me.
I snickered at pulled opened my locker. As soon as I did that, a loud clang sounded as it hit heard against something and books started to fall around my feet, followed by a deep rumbling swearword cursed aloud by a baritone voice.
“Oh my god,” I shut the locker and stared at the boy. He was holding his bleeding nose and winced when I tried to touch him. “Are you all right?” I asked nervously, feeling bad of what I did.
“No,” he said bluntly and requested for a tissue. I had none. Luckily, nobody was around so I asked him to lie on the floor. His shirt was stained with blood. But that didn’t amaze me, his body did. As he was lying on the floor, his shirt plastered against his skin, I could clearly see his abs flex under the luminous light. It was tantalizing.
Someone cleared his throat. “Enjoying the bird’s eye view?” He asked nonchalantly. I averted my gaze to his and my mouth flew open. He was good- looking, even with his bloodied nose. Only then did I notice the bleeding had ceased.
“I am so sorry about that,” I apologized sincerely. “What were you doing standing beside me? Were you creeping on me?”
He grunted. “No, I saw you staring into space and I thought you were having problems opening your locker, so I decided to help you. Standing beside you, I realized you were in deep thought. Then BAM! I was practically bleeding to death.” He said, still lying on the floor. I hovered above him as I looked into his captivating green eyes.
“Exaggerating much?” I arched an eyebrow.
He gaze traveled to my eyes. His eyes sparkled momentarily. There were –
“Mind helping me up?” He asked. Not even a ‘please’?
I shook my head and laughed. Standing up, I said, “Yes, in fact, I do mind. Don’t you have legs?”
“No, I don’t,” He said charmingly. “Mind you that you were the one who knocked me in the face and forced me to lie on this dirty floor.”
“Oh, too bad because I don’t really care now, do I?” I sighed. “I guess I’ll let you lie here and rot then.” I smiled playfully and punched him on the chest. He feigned a cry and stood up abruptly.
I was momentarily oblivious to my surrounding but my peripheral vision told me otherwise. A dark figure loomed behind the walls and I could feel stinging sensation of daggers piercing through my skin. It was about to burn a hole in my forehead. I snapped my head to the other side and ignored the feeling of being watched.
I scowled involuntarily.
“Earth to Summer,” The boy waved his hand frantically in front of my face.
“Huh?” I said snapped back to reality. “What is it?”
He sighed. “Being in a coma for two years must’ve really screwed you up. Are you alright?”
“Yes.” I lied through gritted teeth. “How do you know my name?” I asked curiously.
He laughed as if it was a joke and patted my head. “Everybody knows you now. After what you did to poor Dan back there and appearing out of nowhere, you’re like a mysterious creature, hard to decipher. Who knew a nerdy girl like you was once the Dan’s girlfriend!” He stated in a matter-of-fact tone.
“Oh, stop flattering me,” I said sarcastically. “I’m easily spoiled, you know.”
“Oh really?” He smirked cunningly, parting his sweet lips and licking them with his tongue. I was frozen on the spot. He took the opportunity to lean in beside me and whisper seductively into my ears, “Just so you know, I like spoiled brats.”
Under all circumstances, I gulped--- loudly.
I felt something bite into my neck and grimaced. Those piercing daggers were like fire ants’ bites. At least it broke me free from my frozen figure.
“Very funny, Mr. Uhhhhh,” I trailed off. God damn it! I didn’t even know his name!
“Please,” He smiled widely. “Call me Kane.”
