As usual, he strode towards us and cocked his head ever so slightly when we made eye contact. He had his winsome smile plastered on his face, and Rita was clearly stripping him off his clothes with her eyes. I felt like the only person responsible to block her path before she jumps out of her seat and tears his clothes apart and starts savaging him.

He looked at me with his intense gaze, as if he was trying to lure me into a trap full of –

“Smexxxxyyyyy” Rita drawled from across me. Well, that had me break my eye contact with him.

My mouth dropped open widely. Did my new friend just say that out loud in front of me?

“Is that a combination of smelly and sexy?” I joked but her answer to my question was soon cut off by the shrill noise of her phone’s ringing tone. “Damn,” She said woefully. She took a quick glance at the phone screen and her expression changed immediately.

Flipping her phone open, she quickly hit the answer button and said gaily, “Oh, hi Philip!”

Her cheerful tone and expression was an act, of course. “Yeah, sure,” She said unwilling. “I’ll meet you there later.” But before I could ask her who it was, she face went deathly grim. “Now?” She muttered. “Fine……” She grouched.

I looked at her with a raised eyebrow. “Your brother?” I asked, feigning curiosity.

“Ha-ha,” She mocked. “Nope, Killjoy-er.”

I laughed and slapped my hands over my hips. “Your boyfriend wouldn’t like that now, would he?” I said cheekily.

She responded with a brief nod and started gathering and packing her things. As she was about to leave, she hesitated and turned back, warning me seriously,” If you tell Philip anything about this, I swear I’ll make your life a living hell.”

I nodded quickly and said, “My lips are sealed. No clandestine information will be leaked from this trusty mouth of mine.” I proceeded by making a motion – zipping my mouth.

“Right, I'm off. Toodle pip!” She said and smirked. I took a sip of my drink and waved her goodbye. I scrutinized at her. That woman wasn’t even smirking or looking at me. She was looking somewhere behind –

Before my mind could register anything, someone knocked the breath out of me. I gasped loudly and choked on my drink. My spasmodic coughing was clearly audible a few yards from here.

“Oh damn, I’m so sorry about that,” Those words came out of Kane’s mouth, each dripping with sarcasm. My eyes widened and I snapped at him, “You freakin’ bastard!”

“A hot bastard,” He added casually, plomping down on the seat where Rita previously sat, looking at me indifferently. My hands were literally on the verge of strangling him in the middle of the cafeteria.

I craned my neck sideways, clenching and unclenching my fists as anger boiled in me.

Oh, I don’t mind giving him a scar on the face again……

But as soon as I made eye contact with him, my mind immediately discarded the thought.

He was whimpering at me with puppy dog eyes. I couldn’t help but stare at him in awe. What does he think he’s doing?

“Do you expect me to forgive you?” I asked, looking at him, fazed. Did he really think I was that stupid like most girls are? Who blush over hot dudes and succumb to their charms? I tapped my fingers on the table repeatedly. I knew I was irritating him by the look he was giving me. Alas, he realized I wasn’t planning on forgiving him.
