I get home and go straight to my sisters room. I need to vent.
"Sam was the one who punched the perv the other night and got me up and safe, but Jack took the credit. It really doesn't matter to me who the hell got me out of there but the fact that Jack lied about it kind of changes things a little. I feel like I owe Sam something" I'm pacing in her room now.
"Whaaat? Why would Jack take the credit? And what are you gonna' do to pay Sam back?"
"I think Sam told him to. He didn't want me to feel like I owed him something, but I do anyways. And I'm not sure what I'm gonna' do honestly"
"Well just go get some sleep and talk to them tomorrow, ok?" I agree and walk to my room.
I get some pajamas on, lay down and check my phone. I have a couple texts from Sam and a missed call, and a text from Jack, then a few others from different friends.
"I'm sorry for not just being honest and taking you home or something that night but it's over with now"
"And please don't be mad at Jack because I'm sure he would've done the same thing as me if he were around to see everything" Those are what Sams texts say.
I reply: "I don't hate either of you. I'm just conflicted now. And I definitely feel like I owe you so don't argue and say I don't and just think of something I can do to thank you"
Jacks text says: "Hey why'd you leave without telling me? I was worried"
"Sam told me about homecoming night. I'm not mad or anything but we should probably talk tomorrow.. Goodnight"
–
The next day I wake up around 10 AM and get dressed, eat something, brush my teeth and all that stuff then decide on who I want to talk to first. I eventually decide on Jack.
"Hey meet me at the park" I send Jack a quick text.
"Okay" He replies.
Neither of us live very far from the park so we get there pretty quickly.
"Hey" He smiles and tries to hug me but I reject it.
"What's wrong?" He steps back, his face going from happy to worried.
"Nothing. I mean, there's something but it's not really anything to worry about I don't think. I'm just wondering why you took the credit for helping me out the other night. I kinda feel like we bonded more because of everything and now that I know that Sam's the one who helped, I feel like I owe him something and I feel bad for praising you like some kind of God or something since then, ya know?"
"No, I don't know. Yeah, Sam carried you upstairs and got you to safety but I took care of you for the rest of the night and part of the next day. I don't see why this is an issue at all honestly"
"Well it's not like I'm mad or anything but I do want to know why you took the credit"
"Sam told me to"
And if Sam told you to jump off of a cliff, would you? I think to myself.
"Well whatever it's over with now and I couldn't care less who did what that night. I'm safe and nothing happened so that's really all I care about. But I just feel like I owe Sam something so I'm gonna' head to his place now and talk with him"
Jack's eyes widen.
"What? No! He's gonna wanna take you on a date or some stupid shit like that. I thought you said it was over with? Can't you just send Sam a 'thank you' text and move on?"
"Absolutely not. Like I said, I've been treating you like some superhero God, meanwhile Sam hasn't gotten any recognition for pretty much saving me from being.. you know. I'm going to his house whether you like it or not"
Jealousy is not a cute look on Jack.
"Fine" He turns away from me and stomps off like a 5 year old.
Jack can be mad all he wants. I'm not going to worry about it right now. Instead, I'm gonna head back to my place and tell Sam to meet me over there.
--
15 minutes later, Sam arrives at my house. I wait until we're in my room to start talking.
"So I want to say thank you for everything you did the other night. I feel bad that Jack got all of the credit. Pleeeeease tell me you've thought of a way that I can re-pay you" He shakes his head.
"No, I don't want anything. I was just being a decent person. Anyone would have helped"
"That's where you're wrong. There were hundreds of people at that party. According to you and Jack, that dude pushed through crowds of people with me hanging lifeless in his arms, meaning a lot of people probably saw me. There's no way that you're the only one who did. You're just the only one who decided to help. You're the only person in that whole house that cared enough to actually do something, and I really want to thank you for that"
He sighs.
"Fine. If you really want to thank me, then you'll let me take you out. Like on a date. If you say no, I completely under---"
"Okay. Deal. I'll go out with you. Just one date, though. I am still in a relationship with Jack" He rolls his eyes.
Is it weird that I'm actually excited about going on a date with Sam?
Looking back at this story I feel like this plot-line was kind of unnecessary but oh well. Hope you guys enjoy!
