Turning the corner of the busy street I held my head a little higher than I normally would. Well done Lillah brownie point for you.
I laughed under my breath picking up my pace. The last week had been great,I had been welcomed in to a group of friends with open arms securing my place there. Lacey and Tahnee had introduced me to a few other people, Ashton and Michael, who were pretty charming to say the least.
My 'gifts' where becoming easier to control as I found being away from the same 'kind' as me made it all a lot easier and the voices more bearable aswell as easier to ignore.
Turning around to see if anyone was behind me I scanned the street quickly my good eye sight always coming in handy, one thing you don't want to lose Lillah, I sighed as I saw thestreets where practically empty given it was still quite early.
I jolted back suddenly as I came in to contact with a hard surface. Falling back my arms moved round in the air as I tried to keep my balance but failed. Almost as fast as I was falling two arms secured around me pulling me back up from the quickly nearing concrete, the arms around me had got there so quick it was almost unhuman.
Ever since I tried ignoring the voices me reaction time had gone down to normal human speed, which in this case was not something I favoured.
I was back to my senses, when I heard heavy breathing, as I felt my chest rising and falling rapidly I soon realised it was me.
But this doesn't happen, I never get out of breath.
I saw three worried faces looking down at me, all of them being strangers to me.
I looked at each of them. The first girl was slightly taller than me, long hair flowing down her back, a worried expression splashed across her tanned face. sunglasses placed on top of her head, as a large mulberry handbag was hanging from her wrist. I could tell she was a girly girl, a fashionista. Someone that many people would look up too. Standing beside her was another girl she was the shortest out the three her hair tied up in a tight ponytail yet it still reached the middle of her back, her eyes where dark as confusion glimmered in them darting quickly around as if she was registering a lot of information at one time. Her hands where clasped together, holding each other tightly as she avoided eye contact as much as possible. Just like I use to do.
The last out the small group was a boy, who could easily tower over me, he was dressed in black skinny jeans a plaid top covering his top half. Blonde hair was pocking out his beanie as yet another pair of sunglasses covered his eyes. I noticed a small piercing on his lip, his lips slightly apart as he looked at me through his tinted glasses. I could still feel a tight grip on my arm looking down I found it was a large hand that belonged to the boy in front of me.
"Lillah?" confusion and worry ran through the first girl's voice, looking as if she was almost sorry to see me.
How did they know me I'd never seen them before in my life. I tugged out the boys hard grip, searching the faces in front of me trying to recognise them.
Nothing.
I tried searching through their minds something I promised myself I wouldn't do anymore, but again nothing came up as if something was blocking me getting through.
I took another step back panic running through my veins.
"Hey don't panic, we aren't going to hurt you" the second girl urged her voice kind, but the concern was still evident.
The three looked between each other almost as if they were having a conversation. One I couldn't hear.
"It's me Elise" the first girl said as she pointed to the shorter one next to her "that's summer, we use to be" but the boy gave her a stern look telling her not to continue.
"Look Lillah don't be scared, we aren't going to hurt you, it me Luke rember" the boys voice came out lowly, his tone soft but a lot of sincerity behind it.
I shook my head at his statement, showing I didn't know.
He stuck a hand out to me trying to reach my shoulder; I dodged it not wanting the stranger to get any closer.
He sighed before saying "We aren't like the others we don't ..." but he stopped himself mid sentence something clicking in his mind, as he left mine in a whirlwind.
The two girls, summer and Elise, looked at each other before one of them spoke up.
"So how have you been Lillo?" Summer smiled stepping forward her eyes meeting mine for the first time. I flinched at the nickname she used; only friends could call me that.
Only people I actually knew.
Her smile faulted as she saw me flinch.
"I don't ..... I'm sorry but I don't know you" I stammered speaking up for the first time.
As soon as I said this, realisation took over their face as if something was clicking for them. The dots adding up as everything in their complex minds joined together.
"So they weren't joking when they said you would forget" Elise laughed bitterly a almost hurt tone to her voice, she shook her head as she whispered. "They take everything those selfish-"but Summer stopped her from talking any further, obviously a touchy subject.
"What about Megan and Molly what if she doesn't know who they are anymore either" she turned to the two next to her, talking about me as if I wasn't there.
"That would kill them, they where a team" summer whispered
Luke hushed the two girls obviously not wanting me to hear. A sad look overcoming him as the girl's replied with a sympathetic one.
I stood there confused as ever. I couldn't forget anything I never did. Just like losing my breath that never happened either. Maybe my powers where fading, just like I wanted them too.
"Look let us explain Lillo, I mean Lillah, everything will make sense" Luke smiled at me fondly trying to sort things out.
His smile was familiar a safe feeling settling at the pit of my stomach.
I couldn't smile back; instead I looked down at the ground.
"I can't I don't know you" I replied sternly.
"You do" Elise stuttered out "You do know us I promise you that" she tried to reach for me but I moved away again my breathing picking up.
"Look Lillah, I will show you" Luke got out quickly, pulling the sleeve of his shirt up his hands fumbling a little as he panicked slightly.
At what I saw next, I gasped my thoughts going a million miles a second.
No, no it's not possible. I've ran so far just to be caught up again.
He was marked. He was marked. Was all that was going through my head.
"No Lillah it's not like that" Luke stammered
But I didn't give him time to finish as I did one of the only things I could do.
I ran.
