Over the other side of Death Valley Derrick sat at home - again. She was kind if what you'd call a lonely type of person. She ran her fingers along the dusty keys of the piano. Despite its aged look she always kept it beautifully tuned and played her music as an escape.
She closed her eyes and let the music consume her. She knew exactly what she was playing, the acoustic version of We Are Golden by Mika. The original was kinda loud and pop-ish but she still adored Mika's music. She opened her mouth and began to sing.
"Waking up,
In the midday sun,
What's to live for?
When you can see what I've done,
Staying out of motion,
In the light of day,
I was hiding,
From the things that you say."
She softened her playing so that it was quieter, and her voice quietened to little louder than a whisper.
"We are not what you think we are,
We are golden,
We are golden."
She raised her voice a little.
"We are not what you think we are,
We are golden,
We are golden!"
She raised her voice some more.
"Teenage dreams in a teenage circus,
Runnin' around like a clown on purpose,
Who gives a damn about the family you come from?
No givin' up when you want some!
Running around agaaain,
Running from runniiing,
Running around agaaain,
Running from runniiing"
She grew a little louder, she could always relate to this part cus of the crap she got from bullies.
"I was a boy,
At an open door,
Why you starin'?
Do you still think that you know?
Looking for treasure in the things that you threw,
Like a magpie,
I live for glitter not you!"
She spoke slightly louder than her normal talking voice this time.
"We are not what you think we are,
We are golden,
We are golden,
We are not what you think we are,
We are golden,
We are golden."
She sang louder still, feeling the energy of her playing flow through her.
"Teenage dreams in a teenage circus,
Runnin' around like a clown on purpose,
Who gives a damn about the family you come from?
No givin' up when you want some!
Running around agaaain,
Running from runniiing,
Running around agaaain,
Running from runniiing"
She yelled the next lyrics, as though they were the most important things to her, and like they represented something she needed to get off of her chest. They weren't in the acoustic version but she didn't give a fuck, she loved them.
"Now I'm sittin' alone,
And I'm lookin' for help,
Left here on my own I'm gonna hurt myself!
Many years have gone by,
I'm still wonderin' why,
If I ever let the world,
Ever bleed me dry!"
She softened her voice to a whisper and slowly ascended to a shout, as she spoke the words that had saved her from the bullies.
"We are not what you think we are,
We're,
We are not what you think we are,
WE'RE!
Teenage dreams in a teenage circus,
Runnin' around like a clown on purpose,
Who gives a damn about the family you come from?
No givin' up when you want some!
Running around agaaain,
Running from runniiing,
Running around agaaain,
Running from runniiing"
She then softened her voice again, sweat beginning to bead on her forhead.
"We are not what you think we are,
We are golden."
