I almost hung up after a few rings, this was a terrible idea, Ian would be asleep and I could just wait until later, what was I thinking calling at this time-
“Hello?” A groggy voice answered on the other side of the call.
“Ian! I’m so sorry I was just about to hang up, I didn’t think about how early it is when I started calling!” I blurted out apologetically.
“No, no don’t be sorry, this is kind of a great surprise actually.” I could almost tell he was smiling just by the way he said that. “So, what’s up?” he asked.
“Well I’m not really sure how to ask this, but..uh-”
“Don’t worry Ash, just ask me anything!” Ian interrupted, trying to get me to just come out and ask whatever it was I was getting at.
“Ok, well, this may sound like a crazy request, but it’s sort of important. Is there any way you can come back home, I mean here, for a little while?”
“Umm…well I don’t really know, but I have been thinking about you a lot, I know we were trying to move on but I really can’t, Ash I still love you.”
My heart was going crazy, and I could’ve sworn that I felt my baby kick at the same time.
“I’d do just about anything at this point to come visit. I have an extra long weekend coming up, all of us seniors here are skipping Monday as a senior skip day, so this could be a perfect time for me to come visit you!” Ian said, suddenly sounding awake and really excited.
“I can already tell you now that Aunt Liz won’t mind. So if your parents ok this, just call me later on today. We probably should try to get some sleep, seeing as how we both have school soon.” I wanted to stay on the phone, but I hadn’t gotten much sleep anyway and I knew school was going to go on forever for the rest of the week, so we said our goodbyes and I admitted to Ian that I was still madly in love with him too, then we hung up. I was up a few hours later, before Aunt Liz had left for work, and met her downstairs to eat some cereal.
“What are you doing awake this early? You aren’t usually up for about another hour.” Aunt Liz questioned.
“I talked to Ian, he’s going to ok it with his parents, and hopefully come visit this weekend.”
“That’s wonderful! I’m so proud of you for deciding to include Ian, he’s a good guy Ash, and I know you’re a good girl, and he needs to know about this little girl you two are going to have.
Ian called me right after I got out of the shower, getting ready for school. He didn’t want to wait until after school that day to tell me that his parents were completely ok with him flying here to visit, in fact, they were happy to see that he was truly happy again.
The week passed, as I suspected, as slow as ever. It was finally Friday; Ian would be on a flight soon after school was over to come visit. I didn’t expect everything to go perfectly, in fact, I was expecting the worst. I had kept the pregnancy from him for just over 4 months. Not only was Ian going to get the shocking news that I was pregnant, but also that I was a terrible person and excluded him all this time. My biggest fear was that he would hate me for being so insensitive as to not tell him when I first found out I was pregnant. School was finally over that day, and Olivia and Corinna were informed of Ian’s visit, they were both beaming with excitement for me.
“Let us know how it goes.” Olivia said as she and Corinna headed home after dropping me off at my house. I waved to them as I headed into my house. Aunt Liz had written me a note on the kitchen counter saying that she would make an awesome dinner when she got home, but that she was going to be a little late.
