Lila was smiling even as she headed for the detention room for the second time in two days. It turned out the teaching staff weren't really into grand romantic gestures, and she and Isaac had been given detention for their 'inappropriate display' in the lunch hall. Despite the lack of enthusiasm from the angry teacher on lunch duty, the response to the kiss from the student body had been everything Lila had hoped it would be. Instead of having hushed conversations about a scandalous hook-up, suddenly everyone was enchanted by the blossoming romance between the bad-girl and the jock. What was not to love?
Isaac had been hesitant about the whole idea at first, especially having been slapped with a detention within the first five minutes of their fake relationship, but when Lila had explained the whole idea to him, he couldn't help but agree. Not to mention that the plan was already in action – he couldn't have backed out even if he'd wanted to.
The plan was to pretend to be dating for the next two weeks, until people would have forgotten all about the rumours, and then have a very public breakup before going back to being friends as normal. Lila knew the best way to deal with the gossip was just to own it – if they tried to deny it, it would look like an embarrassed cover-up, but by pretending to date it suddenly made the whole thing less shocking and more charming. Not to mention that Lila hinted to Isaac that it might make Jessica jealous if she saw him with another girl – especially a girl she hated.
Just as Lila was about to arrive at detention, she felt her phone buzz in her pocket and found a text from Isaac.
Isaac Johansson – 16.02 – Sorry to ditch but coach needs me at practice tonight so I'm doing detention tomorrow. I'll drive you to school tomorrow to make up for it x
Great, so she had to face detention alone. Lila rolled her eyes, even though she couldn't exactly stay mad at Isaac for long. The guy was like an oversized puppy, and she couldn't hold it against him if he was going to drive her to school in the morning. Anything to get away from Aunt Penny's awkward car rides.
Flicking her hair over her shoulder decisively, she walked into detention just wanting to get it over with as soon as possible. She only got two steps into the classroom before she stopped in her tracks. A smirk slowly spread across her face as she recognised the guy she'd met in her last detention.
"You," she blurted out in surprise, making the guy look up with a jump.
"Me?" he replied with amusement.
"Yeah, you," she repeated, walking over to the seat next to him. "Mystery guy."
"Mystery guy?"
"Yeah, don't you like your nickname?"
"Well, it's better than yours, princess."
Lila shot him a stony stare. "Don't. Even," she growled, making the guy chuckle softly.
"So, why am I your mystery guy?" he asked in confusion.
"'Cause you just left yesterday," Lila pointed out.
"Well I did get dismissed," he protested with amusement, "I don't know about you but I don't exactly like to hang around at the end of detention."
"You never even told me your name," Lila reprimanded him playfully.
"I'm Kit," he said, rolling his eyes at how persistent she was being.
