Lila was pleasantly surprised to discover that Isaac Johansson made an excellent boyfriend. After a week of being driven to and from school every day, meeting in the hallways between classes, eating lunch together and even cheering him on at a lacrosse game, even Lila found herself forgetting that their relationship was fake. The whole school seemed obsessed with their romance and the rumours about them quickly faded out of existence, leaving them with nothing to tarnish their status as Larson High's new power couple.

There was a new kind of affection between the two of them as well – not exactly romantic but one of mutual care. Lila knew that Isaac always had her back no matter what and quickly came to realise that he was the best friend she'd made at the school. They had inside jokes, little bickering arguments like a married couple, and Isaac even had a playlist on his phone that they listened to every morning during the car ride to school. Lila realised that this was the happiest she'd felt ever since she'd arrived in Lake Larson.

Even Jessica seemed reluctantly in favour of their relationship. Lila had seen her and Isaac talking a few times in the hallways and had to try hard not to let her excitement show and leave people questioning her loyalties. Isaac had shot to celebrity status within the school, which clearly made him worth Jessica's attention now. She'd even backed off from Lila a little, feeling less threatened by her now she was supposedly dating someone else. This was good news for Lila as it made her friendship with Vic much less stressful and she'd started to enjoy his company more.

A week after her fake relationship with Isaac had started, she was on her way to Miss Halliday's English class when she heard someone call her name.

"Harper!" Vic yelled from the other end of the hallway, jogging to catch up with her.

"Morning, sunshine," she smirked, taking in Vic's ruffled appearance, from his untucked shirt to his dishevelled hair, carrying a couple of dog-eared books under his arm.

"Shut up, I overslept," he chuckled, elbowing her in the ribs. "You ready for this test?" he asked with amusement, proving that he clearly wasn't. Lila stopped walking for a moment and fixed him with a glare.

"You're messing with me, right?" she said suspiciously, narrowing her eyes at him to try to work out if he was kidding.

"No, seriously!" he protested. "Did you forget? The one on The Great Gatsby?"

"Shit," Lila gasped, "I totally forgot!"

"Classic," Vic laughed to himself. "I'd say you could copy off me but I don't know shit," he admitted.

"No no no," Lila groaned, "I can't fail another one of Halliday's tests or she'll give me detention and then Penny'll flip out."

"Since when is Lila Harper afraid of detention?" Vic joked, earning a glare from Lila.

"I'm not afraid," she fired back, "but Penny's still mad at me for sneaking out last week and if I get another detention she's gonna keep me grounded in that god-awful house."

Vic paused to think for a moment, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "There might be another option," he said slowly.

"I'll take anything right now," Lila sighed hopelessly.

"Follow me."

Vic grabbed her arm and started towing her down the hallway, away from the classroom. Lila was left wondering what this great idea was as they passed crowds of students on their way to next period, until Vic led her back through the front entrance and out into the parking lot.
