“What would happen if we got caught?”
“Then, it would be the end of this,” I laugh at Cody’s statement, which had a sarcastic edge to it, as he pulls me closer and presses his lips to mine. At the moment, we were at Haven. We called our secret park, Safe Haven, but if we told anyone it was called ‘Safe Haven’, they would start asking questions. We have been coming here, at least once a day, for about a week now. I press my hands to his chest and push him away. “No, seriously. What would actually happen?” He shrugs and sits down on the green grass.
“I dunno,” He squints up at me as I stand above him. The sun was high, just behind my head. “None of my friends, that I know of, have done something so…” He holds his elbow with one had, and with his index finger on his other hand, he taps his lips, looking out. I shake my head with a grin on my face as he ‘ah’s’ and points a finger at me as he says, “Badass.”
“Badass?”
“Yes,” He pats the grass next to him, gesturing for me to sit down. “This is pretty badass.”
“A teenage couple sitting at a secret park, having fun, is badass?” I say as I sit down, crossing my legs.
“It is when you live at a secret Safe House and one of the rules is ‘No relationships’.”
“True,” I pull my legs up and lean on Cody, snuggling into him, my head in the crook of his neck. He wraps an arm around my back and leans his head against mine. We sit there in silence, the sky slowly turning a beautiful pinky-orange as the sunsets. “We should head back,” Cody says, sitting up. I push myself up as well, and stand, brushing off the grass on my butt. “Yeah, lets go.”
We walk through the grass-path, and pass our tree. Earlier in the week, Cody carved our initials into a tree, and put a heart around it. I smile at the memory. When we get to the end, we stop and look around the corner. “All clear,” Cody says.
“Okay,” I take a breath. “One, two, three.” We run to our bikes, which we leave on the other side of the park so no one would suspect anything. We rush to pick up our bikes and ride off. Cody seemed to be a natural at it. I, on the other hand, am not. I’m getting better, though.
We ride through the streets, my hair blowing out behind me. Cody speeds ahead of me and I peddle hard to catch up. We race around corners and down hills. I struggled a bit when we got to the hill, but then the rest was a breeze. I liked being with Cody. He made me happy. Once we get back to the Safe House, we lock the bikes up and go to our rooms. We always get to my room first, and it always ends up with Cody coming in, sneaking a kiss goodbye, and then leaves.
Tonight, once he left, I grabbed the box of powdered drinking chocolate from my cupboard, that I bought when we went out one day, and the milk. I put two teaspoons of the chocolate in and poured the milk in. I put it in the microwave and waited for it to finish. Now I have hot chocolate. I’m sitting in bed, snuggled up, reading and drinking my hot beverage. I hear a knock at my door, making me jump and nearly spill the last bit of the drink on myself. “Who’s there?”
“It’s me,” A voice comes from the other side. “Silvana.” Silvana? What does she want?
“Alright, coming!” I set my drink down and put my bookmark in my book. Walking over to the door, I pause at the mirror to check what I look like. “Ew,” I mutter under my breath. My hair was a mess. I throw my hair over and pull it up into a bun. I had a hair-band on my wrist and tied it to secure the bun. I open my door. “Hey! What brings you here?” I tried to look cheery and happy, when, really, I was a bit annoyed that I was interrupted during my hot chocolate and book. “I, uh, just want to talk, for a sec.” She says, letting herself in.
