Multiple sounds buzzed around Ayano's head, causing her to stir. She slowly opened her eyes only to quickly squeeze them shut again in response to the bright lights. Everything felt sore, especially her stiff back. She became quickly aware of the bandages snugly wrapped around her middle causing said stiffness. She opened her eyes and took in her surroundings, she was in a hospital room, the heart monitor was to her right, behind it was a large window, the light outside giving away that it was almost noon. To her left, she found the stand for the iv that was in her wrist, supplying the fluids she needed, a small table sat beside it, holding multiple cards, by looking at the signatures, she could tell they were from her classmates, among the cards, there was a vase of red and black roses. Along the wall there was a mirror, Ayano took in the sight of the girl staring back at her. She was garbed in a hospital gown, her fair skin that she usually kept clean of marks seemed paler and had bruises and cuts here and there, small bandages covering the smallest injuries, while larger ones dressed the more major wounds. Her hair was disheveled and dull, lips chapped, Ayano almost didn't recognize herself. She looked away from the mirror towards the door, she could see the silhouettes of people passing by through the crack underneath the door, she could hear the footsteps, wheels squeaking, and doctors talking to one another. She startled slightly when the door opened and a nurse stepped in, reading something off her clipboard.
The nurse looked up, her face went from focused to surprised. "You're awake," she commented.Ayano nodded, sitting up a little straighter. "What am I doing here?" She finally asked, her voice slightly cracked. She was genuinely curious, the last thing she remembered was Osana stabbing her in the back multiple times before she blacked out.
The nurse gave a warm smile, "The doctor can better explain that than I can, let me go get him."
She left the room, leaving Ayano alone. A few minutes later, the doctor entered the room, scanning over his own clip board quickly before looking at Ayano. "How are you feeling, Miss Aishi?"
She shrugged. "A little sore, but I'm okay," she replied. He smiled at her response.
"That's good to know, when you were first brought in here we thought you weren't going to make it," he stated.
"Could you explain what happened? I don't remember much before blacking out," she asked.
He quickly nodded, "You were brought in by the ambulance accompanied by the police, your friend, and his little sister about five weeks ago. They said that a young girl your age kidnapped them and you came to save them, but then the girl ambushed you and started stabbing you in the back. She stabbed you around eleven times, and broke a few of your ribs. Fortunately, your friend's sister was able to knock her out with a plank of wood. Good thing she did too, you had already lost so much blood that if she hadn't been so quick to act, you wouldn't have made it. You're quite lucky."
"Yeah," Ayano said, one hand lightly laid against her chest, feeling her heartbeat. She was in awe, that a child with such a pure heart would want to save someone like her from death. "What happened to the girl?"The doctor chuckled, "Don't worry, Miss Aishi, she won't be bothering you again, she's been arrested for kidnapping and attempted murder."
Ayano nodded, "Good," she said, "What about my friends?"
"They've visited you every day, every now and again they bring some of your classmates with them." The nurse came into the room again.
"Doctor, you're needed in the ER," she said.
The doctor nodded, "Alright, I'll be there. Good to see you're feeling better Miss Aishi."
Ayano nodded in thanks as he left the room, the nurse then looked to her, "Your parents just called, they've been calling in daily to know about your condition, would you like to speak to them?" Ayano nodded, picking up the phone at her bedside from its receiver and waited for the lines to be connected.

"Ayano? is that you?!?!?" a panicked female's voice came over the line.
Ayano smiled, "Yeah Mom, it's me," she said warmly.
"Oh thank god, Honey, it's Ayano," her mother said to her father, "Are you okay?? We were so worried when the neighbor called and told us you were in the hospital!!"
Ayano laughed softly, "I'm okay, mom. Can I speak to Dad please?"
"Oh of course you can dear, you don't need to ask~," her mother cooed sweetly. The sound of the phone being passed filled the silence before a calm, almost somber male voice spoke.
"Hey kiddo, how are you feeling?"
Ayano couldn't help but smile sadly at her father's voice, "Hi Dad, I'm okay, just a little sore."
"Good to know you're alright now, you had us both worried. You're mother hasn't left the hotel since we got the call, she was afraid that the hospital would call while she was away. Even though I told her I would let her know if they called, she insisted on staying put. We would have flown home, but the weather has been keeping the airports closed these past few weeks. We're sorry we couldn't be there right now, but we should be home in at most three months."
"Don't worry about it, Dad," Ayano said, eyes watering, her voice honestly warm and loving, "If anything, I should be the one apologizing."
"What for?" For the first time in years, her father's voice sounding brighter, less depressed.
"For worrying you so much, you were always so worried because I didn't show much emotion when I was little, so I thought if I tried to show emotion, you'd be happy. But, you knew I was faking it, didn't you?"
Her father sighed on the other line, "Of course I did kiddo, but you don't need to apologize, because there was nothing for you to apologize for. I was the one that should have just accepted you the way you are." Her father paused for a moment as if he realized something. "Did something happen, kiddo? You sound different since we left?"
Ayano smiled, "Something did happen, Dad. I guess, I found the people that can bring out my emotions. Real ones."
"REALLY?! THAT'S GREAT! WHO IS THE YOUNG MAN~?"
Ayano jumped in surprise, "M-Mom?!? Were you eavesdropping this entire time?!?"
"Eh~? Did you really expect me not to listen to what my darling husband and daughter say when they finally talk to each other for the first time since we left~?"
"Ryoba, we've talked about this. You're not allowed to eavesdrop on my conversations."
"Aw~~ Fine. But Ayano, don't forget to use protection~!"
"MOM!"
"RYOBA!"
"Okay, okay, I'll talk to you later, love you sweetie~"
The soft click of the third phone hanging up was heard over the speaker. Both sides not speaking, before her father actually started to laugh at his wife's childish actions. Ayano, eventually began to laugh as well.
Eventually, he was able to speak again, "Well, I'm happy for you kiddo. You're mother and I will be sure to call you more often, I love you."
"I love you too, Dad."

Ayano hung the phone back on the receiver and laid back. She turned her head towards the window and simply admired the world outside.
