DANNY
All my life it felt like something was missing, a part of me that was hidden in shadows just outside of my grasp. Now don't get me wrong, I had a pretty normal and okay childhood. I had a good education, a family who loved me, and every opportunity under the sun. But my normal apple pie life was getting kind of boring.
I wake up every day at 7 am and work till about 3 am the next morning in a crappy clinic in a not so nice part of LA, and then on weekends, I have lunch at my parent's house. My dad is a Police officer who used to work in the gang unit and my mum is your typical stay at home keeps everything, nice wife. I knew I always wanted to help people and the clinic gave me the chance to help the poorer people of LA, much to my parent's annoyance because they saw me at some fancy hospital working regular hours for a much better salary.
My parents aren't my real parents, I was adopted when I was one. And every time I would bring up my birth parents I got shot down, being told they were both scum and drug addicts. So I don't really bring up the topic anymore ay family lunches, but I was curious about my real mum and dad and where I came from.
"Daniel stop daydreaming son and help me carry the plates into the kitchen."
I snap out of my thoughts as dad snaps his fingers in front of my face. I grab the plates in front of me and get up from the dining table, following him to the kitchen. As we walk down the hallway I glance up at a couple of photos hung on the wall which was taken when dad was still a part of the gang unit.
"Dad, do you ever miss it?"
He grunts in front of me, "miss what son?"
We enter the kitchen and I start putting the dishes in the dishwasher, "do you miss the thrill of being in the gang unit?"
Dad leans against the counter and chuckles, "I stayed with the gang unit until you were six, but then your mother got scared she might be forced to raise you alone one day with all the bad people I dealt with so I quit and took a nice office job so I could be there to watch you grow up. Why do you ask Daniel?"
I shrug my shoulders, "I saw the photos in the hallway, and I guess I want a bit more thrill in my life."
Dad shakes his head, "be careful what you wish for son. You're old enough now to make your own decisions, but know your mother and I are always here for you."
~Night~
I pull into my spot in the average apartment complex I lived in. I didn't want my parents spending their money on me so this was the compromise, a nice little two-bedroom place close to my work which I could afford. As I lean over to grab the shopping bags on the passenger seat I hear gunshots which were normal for the area I lived in, except this time they sounded really close to my car.
I peek my head up and look through the passenger window to see two hooded figures running from a third who had fallen to their knees obviously the one who had gotten shot at. I said I wanted some thrill in my life, maybe this was it. Dad said I needed to be careful what I wished for, but the doctor inside me couldn't let this person bleed to death.
I get out of the car and run to the person's side just as he slips something into his backpack. Yes, he was a he, and a very beautiful he for that matter even though I mainly saw black hair, a snapback, and a hoodie. He was hunched over so I crouch down in front of him.
"Err hi, I'm Danny, I'm a doctor, let me take you upstairs to mine and fix you up."
The guy looks up and winces, "as long as you don't shoot me cutie."
I help him up ignoring the fact that he had called me cutie. He had to have a few years on me. Despite his protests and complaining, I get him to my front door.
JOREL
How the fuck had I let myself get ambushed by rivals? I knew better, and the guys wouldn't drop this for a very long time. That's if the blonde cutie in front of me who claimed to be a doctor actually got the bullets out before I bled out. I couldn't go to a normal hospital and the local clinic was shut today due to understaffing so this Danny kid was my last chance.
He gets me inside what I assume is his apartment and takes me over to the kitchen island where he tells me to lie down while he gets some supplies. I salute him and comply, enjoying watching his perky little ass walk away from me.
"I don't have anything to numb the pain, all that stuff is at the clinic I work at, but I do have the next best thing...err..."
"You can call me J cutie," I respond, internally laughing seeing his cheeks blush.
He hands me a bottle of vodka and I down half the bottle, this was my kind of medicine.
"You have three bullet wounds J but they look shallow enough that I should be able to remove all the bullets with no issue."
"Then have at me doc."
Danny shakes his head but I catch him smiling.
~Time Skip~
"You're all wrapped up and bullet free J."
Danny helps me sit up and then helps me down from the island which was kind of covered in my blood. That was the fastest and most gentle anyone had ever treated my injuries, Danny had fast hands which made my mind wonder what else he could do with them.
"Thanks for patching me up Danny, most people would have left me to bleed out."
"Well, I'm not most people J. Just try to take it easy for a few days and try not to get shot again."
I laugh, "in my line of work I can't take it easy, but I'll try not to get shot for at least a whole two days if that makes you feel any better."
Danny rolls his eyes, "it's like talking to a brick wall."
I find my hoodie in the lounge and because it was black it meant the blood wouldn't stand out and pull it carefully over my head. Then I find my snapback on the arm of the sofa, and after adjusting it I look up to see photos hanging on the wall. One was of an old LA gang unit, and the second was Danny with a nice looking woman and one of the men from the gang unit photo. Did Danny have ties to the LA gang unit? If so then my might just got a whole lot more interesting.
"Maybe I'll see you around sometime Danny."
Danny smiles and opens the front door, "yeah, maybe J."
