five; whispering

Maddie-

I was watching tv when I heard my phone beep.

I unlocked my phone and read it.

'oh my gosh, m thank you! Can't wait! Can Kendall and Nia sit with us too? I don't want them to feel left out... '

'no they will ruin it. We just want you. Also, don't tell them. It will be our little secret'

'omg okay anything to be friends with you guys!'

I locked my phone again and laughed.
People could be blinded by the stupidest things. I'm surprised Kendall didn't tell Kalani about what happened today. They sure didn't like her that much.

I groaned at the sound of my mom skyping with whoever and got a bag to fill with stuff for tonight.

Grabbing the essentials, I listened to the neighbourhood on my phone until it was 4:30.

I hopped down the huge staircase. Kenzie was probably in her room, so I quietly opened the hidden cabinet that I found one day home alone and I grabbed the flask from inside.

I dropped the bag and ran upstairs. I banged on Kenzie's door.

"Kenz, I'm leaving for Paige's house."

"Okay, when will you be home?" I heard her innocent twelve year old voice on the other side of the door.

"I'm not sure yet, I might sleepover.

"Okay."

I headed out the door and pretty much ran to Paige's house which was just a few blocks away.

I knocked on the door, but without waiting for an answer, I opened the door.

"Paige!" I hollered.
She came down the stairs and smiled.

"Hey. Chloe's already here. In my room."

I followed her up the stairs and she opened the door to reveal Chloe laying on Paige's huge bed in her phone.

"Maddie!" Chloe yelped looking away from twitter.

"Hey! Okay look at this." I smiled and showed them the kik messages between Kalani and I.

They laughed and we decided that tomorrow would be interrogation day. Asking for information and everything about the girls. The next few days we would carry out our plan, convincing Kalani that she was one of us and that the other two were bad. She would have to help us, right?

"Let's watch a movie." Chloe said.
We watched some over-romanticized chick flick while eating on Paige's bed. By the time the movie was over, it was 9 o'clock. I checked instagram. Scrolling through my feed a saw a picture that one of the really cute but desperate jocks posted. It was a picture of Kendall and him siting on a bench at the park near our houses.

Love her.

My jaw dropped. The pic was posted 5 minutes ago.

"Let's walk to the park." I said.

We walked down to the park in darkness and we saw a couple making out on a bench. Paige smiled. She walked over to them and tried to see who it was; possibly anyone we knew. Her eyes got really big and she ran back over to us.

"It's Mark!"She whispered aggressively. We looked at each other.

I smiled.

"Maddie, don't."

"No, Maddie! Please!"

I grabbed a stick off the ground and stuck it in some mud nearby. Holding the muddy stick, I quietly walked up behind them. I quickly flung the mud on Kendall. She shrieked. Mark looked up.

"What the he- oh, hi Maddie!" He stammered.

"Hey baby." I cooed.

"What the hell?" Kendall screamed.

"Okay, Kendall. I'm sure she didn't do anything. Even if she did, she would need a reason." Mark said.

"You made Nia pour smoothie down Paige's dress. It was just a little joke." I said softly.

Mark looked at Kendall.

"Did you do that?" He said angrily.

"No! Well, I- yes, but-" Kendall tried to get the words out as Mark stood up.

"Why would you do such a thing? You are all a bunch of freaks." He said and walked away.

Her eyes grew and her lip quivered.

"Mark! Wait!" She pleaded. Turning to me, the flaming mad Kendall started to yell.

" You're so mean! I bet you had your little henchmen do this with you. I hate you so much Maddie Ziegler!" She yelled.
I simply smiled.

"Listen to me Kendall. I don't give a crap. You think you're getting to me? All I'm seeing is more and more reasons for you to get some help and anger management classes. Have a good night." I said in a soothing voice.

Paige and Chloe looked a little upset but they laughed as I snapped my fingers and said, "That's how it's done, ladies."

"You guys have been fighting a ton for a first day." Chloe drifted off as she lifted her skinny arm to touch some leaves on a overhead tree.

"That's how it works. I can't wait for tomorrow!" I said sarcastically. Paige snickered.

We walked back home talking about nothing in particular and once we got home I realized it was 11 pm.

"Hey, I gotta go." Chloe said looking at her phone. "Unless I can sleepover."

"Same." I added.
Paige smiled.

"As long as you don't kill me in my sleep, Maddie."

We laughed and I got a text from my mom asked where I was.

'at Paige's house like I said I would be'

'you need to come home. You have school tomorrow.'

'no. I'm staying here. at least they know I exist here'

'Madison please. Stop with the attitude.'

'mom I'm not coming home til tomorrow. '

I locked my phone. She was ridiculous, wanting to be alone and neglect her children one minute, and wanting all the love in the world the next.

I flopped on Paige's giant bed and took out the silver flask from my bag. Paige sat up and looked at me.

"What is that?"

I just smiled and took a large gulp.

Paige rolled her eyes. "That's bad, Maddie."

"I don't care, I think I deserve it after a day."

Paige didn't reply. I put my phone on the table listened to my own breath. My heart was pounding for tomorrow's events, but my head was having second thoughts.
There's no turning back now.
