Death

Death.

Ashton swings his legs back and forth over the edge of the building.

These memories seem so far to him, as if they are not part of his life. They are a collection of stories in someone else’s life. Or maybe dreams. But he knows they were real.

Ashton remembers just how confused he was really at the concept of death. Where do you go? How can you just die and not feel anything after? How can it just be like a long, dreamless sleep? How can everything just disappear like that?

But he understands it now. Just how cruel death can be to everyone and how it had repercussions over others’ lives. It affects everyone in some way.

It is just the end, there is nothing else after. When you die, there is no heaven or hell. You feel nothing, you see nothing. It is just nothingness. Your body may exist as evidence that you were real, you may be forever a fresh memory on others’ minds, but you are nothing. All your memories and feelings fade.

Yes, there is nothing more cruel than death to the people who love and are loved. To the people that had a long life ahead of them. To the people that have something to live for.

But that is not the case for everyone.
