Chapter 33

We turn into Camps Bay, up the slopes of the Twelve Apostles mountain range.

It is an affluent area that I have rarely explored, except to visit the promenade with its many bars and restaurants that line the pristine white beaches at the bottom.

The houses here boast spectacular architectural design and is built into rock faces and crevices, maintaining the natural form of the mountain.

I have never been inside one of the homes here.

Actually, I've never been curious about them either. They are so far from my own reality and world that I've never given it a second thought.

Many of the houses here have been featured in international architectural magazines, which has given me a glimpse into the lavish lifestyles that exists here, but my knowledge of the area is limited to this only.

But of course, Riaan will be familiar with this area. Why am I not surprised. This is his world. The world of the filthy rich.

We turn off the road into a short drive way. A white metal garage door rolls up. Riaan drives in and parks.

"Where are we?" My interest is piqued.

"This is my place. I bought it three years ago while in London. Watch your step, it's a bit crowded in here with some building equipment.

"Yeah, rich people's problems," I mumble.

I hear the soft rumble of his laughter.

There's a lift here naturally, and we get in.

My breath catches. The lift has a glass wall on the opposite end and from it I see the breath-taking landscape of Camps Bay and beyond.

The fine drizzle from before has all but cleared. Twinkling lights spread out before me and a beautiful dark ocean reaches towards the skyline. There are about five ships that I see floating in the vastness of a black shimmering ocean.

So, this is what the rich pay for.

From the buttons on the elevator control pad, I see that there are three levels to the house. Riaan presses two and we arrive shortly on the second floor.

We step out and he flicks on lights as we walk down a passageway. He stops at a door and opens it. He flicks on the light here too and the room comes into focus. It is a bedroom.

Again, the far end of the room has a window that reaches from floor to ceiling. There is no need for shutters or curtains here as the house has been built with privacy in mind.

There are no houses around us, only the rugged beauty of the natural landscape. I expect we drove quite a distance up the mountain slope, although it didn't seem that way. There is a huge bed in the centre of the room and everything is decorated with clean lines and muted colours. Everything looks new. Untouched.

"You can take a bath in here." Riaan opens another door and flicks on yet another light.

"There should be soaps, towels and toothpaste in here. I know you don't have clothes, but there's a cupboard full of my things over there. Help yourself...Although, I don't think you'd be needing any clothing from what I've discovered recently."

He just had to add that, didn't he?

He gives me a wicked look and I flush.

"Is...is this your room?" I ask.

"Yes. Unfortunately, this is a one-bedroom pad so you are going to have to make do with this. There is a guest room on the lower floor but it's being currently renovated... I'll take the couch downstairs. Are you hungry?"
