Three years later, every single Starfleet student wears red, the women wear short, stiff skirts, black shin-high boots with small heels, and red, long-sleeved turtlenecks. The men wear nearly the same kind of shirt (except the collar is stiffer), stiff red pants, and black shoes.

"Why are you so happy?" Bones (McCoy) asks Jim as we quickly walk down the steps in the crowd, the sun shining bright in the nearly-cloudless sky in San Fransisco.

"You won't believe it." I say to Bones.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Jim answers.

"No I don't suppose you do." Bones says to Jim.

Two women pass us and Jim turns to them, not stopping. "Helloooo ladies." He turns back to us. "I'm taking the test again." He tells Bones.

"You gotta be kidding me!" Bones says to Jim.

"Told you." I answer.

"Yeah tomorrow morning and I want both of you there."

"Jim, I'm taking the test right after you." I answer. "Except this is my first time, not my third."

"Look, you know I've got better things to do than watch you embarrass yourself for the third time. I'm a doctor Jim, I'm busy!"

"It doesn't bother you that no one's ever passed the test?" Jim looks back and forth at Bones and I.

"Jim, it's the Kobiashi Maru, no one passes the test and no one goes back for seconds let alone thirds."

"I gotta study." Jim says, slapping Bones on the arm and walking away.

"Study my ass." Bones mutters after him.

I laugh. "You know it's not what he's going to be studying, but who he's gonna be studying."

Bones looks at me and laughs, knowing it's the truth. "So true."
