You kissed Luke on the cheek before grabbing your steamy travel coffee mug out of his hand. "Thanks, babe." He ruffled your hair and you instinctively reached up and fixed it. "Don't forget to take Ty to school! It's his first day!"
"Relax, love, you can trust me." Luke was all smiles.
"I better not regret this." You shut the door behind you. "I knew I should have taken the day off," you mutter.
"I heard that!" Luke's muffled voice comes floating through the wood.

A few hours later, your cell phone rings and you immediately pick up; you weren't supposed to have your phone on at all but made an exception today. "Hello?"
"Hi, Mrs. Hemmings?" a perky female voice on the other end asked politely.
"This is she. May I ask who's calling?"
"My name is Margaret Winters, and I'm the principal of Hart Elementary School. I was just calling to see if anything was wrong."
"Why? Did something happen to Tyler at school?"
"Actually, it's just the opposite. You see, Tyler never showed up today. We were hoping you would know something about it." Luke.
"I'm so sorry, ma'am, this won't happen again. My husband... Nevermind. Anyways, I don't know much more than you do, but I assure you, my son will be at school tomorrow, even if it means losing my job. Thank you." You hung up abruptly and immediately hit speed dial 2. Luke better have a good reason for not dropping Ty off like he promised, or he would be sleeping on the couch for a week.
