The next few days were filled with tension. Every setting of the sun brought with it another unlucky soul, another perfectly butchered corpse in another unpredictable location. Sentinel was helpless, submitted to the whims of the president of Geoco. Alyssa had asked the presiding doctor if there was a way to hasten the process, but she was told accelerating the process would be risky, and Queenson advised against it. Avo, at least, had made progress with Error. Queenson strode into Avo's research lab again.
"Well?" he asked, making Avo flinch in surprise.
"O-oh, inspector, it's just you..." he sighed in relief, stepping away. Error smiled softly.
"Hello, in-in-inspector Queenson." she greeted. Queenson nodded.
"How's the upgrades goin'?"
"They are pro-pro-pro-progressing admirably." she beamed a happy grin. "The software you-you-you requested has been suc-successfully installed."
"Still the stutter?"
"Well, um..." Avo muttered. "I'm focused on getting her suitable for proper spacecraft operation, other software isn't as important..."
"Do you find the stutter cute, too?" He frowned softly. "Is she gonna be safe in the pilot's seat?"
"Once she's interfaced, she should be fine..."
"So she'll need to be plugged in?"
"Affirmative." Error nodded. "I-I-I have been upgraded to con-con-connect directly." she raised her hand to demonstrate. Her fingers rocked back, showing a large cable with a peculiar connector.
"... you're certain you can get that working?"
"Con-confirmed. I am eager to prove myself helpful."
"... won't lie, this is kinda weirding me out. I'm still not convinced you should have a body."
"I understand." Error returned her hand to normal, lowering it again. "If I can help in any oth-oth-other way, please inform me."
"Just... make sure you do your damn job right."
"Affirmative."
"Same goes to you, Avo."
"Right." he nodded, a little nervous. "Um, you're not reconsidering the whole thing, are you?"
"Unless you give me a reason to, I'll stick to my word."
"Right... well, thank you..."
"Don't make me regret it." he turned to leave again. Abe's preparations were probably going well, so there was nothing for him to do but wait. He hated waiting.

10 Minute Tales
General FictionThe result of a New Year's Resolution, I have decided to write for at least 10 minutes a day. This is the result of that effort! Note that I first uploaded to Tumblr, so while I did start this on Jan 1, the earliest this e-book will show is Jan 19.
