Harry tried to peer around the room, but he couldn't see a thing. He couldn't even see his hand right in front of his face. Harry felt heartbroken. He had been so looking forward to feeling loved, and now he had no one! Remus and Sirius didn't seem so bad now. Harry carefully pulled his hurt foot up onto the uncomfortable mattress. He felt tired and wanted badly to sleep, but he was too afraid to sleep in a room this dark. Especially after the Dursley's. But as much as he resisted sleep, it managed to carry him away anyways.

Harry's eyes flew open as the door opened, shining a bright light into the dark room. Harry sat up and blinked. A strange creature stood in the doorway. It was short and had large pointy ears that stuck out like a bat's and it also wore what looked like a filthy pillowcase.

"Is the Potter boy hungry, sir?" the creature asked, his voice high pitched and kind of squeaky.

"Wh-what?" Harry asked.

"Dobby has come to give the Potter boy food. Dobby's master sent him," the creature replied. Harry tried to stand up but found that he couldn't due to the chain. The creature approached Harry and sat down a tray of food. It was very small. Harry sat on the bed and wolfed down the food. It was a chunk of bread, some cheese, and an apple. There was also a cup of water which Harry gulped down noisily. He hadn't eaten since the day before at lunch, for he had felt too guilty at dinner.

"Is you still hungry?" Dobby asked. Harry nodded. The creature snapped his finger and he disappeared. Harry stared in confusion at what had just happened. The creature was back in the blink of an eye. It held another plate of food. Harry wolfed it down again.

"But please don't mention this to Dobby's master. Because Dobby would have to lock his fingers in the oven...again!" Dobby whispered. Harry nodded. He was very good at keeping secrets.

"Wait, can you ask your master to let me go? I didn't do anything, nothing at all!" Harry exclaimed just before the creature could snap its fingers again.

"Dobby is sorry, he would be punished for weeks and weeks if Dobby did that!" Dobby said nervously. Harry slumped against the wall. It had been worth a shot.

"Can you at least tell me a way out of here?" Harry asked suddenly.

"Dobby will try to find one, but Dobby is not sure," Dobby said, his ears drooping a little.

"Why does your master want me?" Harry asked, he really did not want to be left alone!

"I isn't sure. You would have to be asking him," Dobby said. And before Harry could ask another question, Dobby snapped his fingers and disappeared.
