Harry sat in his crib, looking at his mother. She had placed him in the crib and was pushing different pieces of furniture in front of the door, her eyes all wide and fearful. A cold, high laugh echoed from another room. Lily trembled and bent down next to Harry.

"Harry. Harry, you are loved. You are so loved. Mama loves you. Daddy loves you. Harry, be safe. Be strong," she whispered. Harry tried to reach out to touch her, his beautiful, loving mother. The door suddenly blasted open, sending the furniture flying everywhere. Lily stood up in shock and raised her arms, hiding Harry behind her.

"No, please, not Harry!" she screamed.

"Stand aside, girl."

"No, please. Take me instead!" She begged.

"Stand aside," he ordered, his voice cold and firm.

"No, not Harry. I'll do anything," Lily pleaded.

"Avada Kadavra!" There was a blinding flash of green light and Lily fell to the ground. Harry watched with amazement. He always loved it when his dad made bright colors with his stick. Perhaps it was a silly game they were playing and Lily was going to pop up any second laughing and giggling. Perhaps his dad would do more magic. The cloaked figure approached Harry. He raised the "stick." Harry spotted the face under the hood. It wasn't his dad. Harry felt tears start to slip down his face, a loud wail issuing from his mouth. The man before him was scary.

"Avada Kadavra!" the man shouted one last time. Harry watched as the same blinding green light headed straight for him. He wanted to flinch but was too frightened. Suddenly an excruciating pain hit him in the forehead at the same time that the man's body faded away, leaving nothing but a spirit like-form.

Harry sat up in his bed, covered in cold sweat. He fought to catch his breath so he could call for Sirius and Remus.

"Sirius!" Harry called. There was the sound of footsteps approaching his door. It was flung open and Sirius and Remus came over to him and knelt by the bed.

"What's wrong?" Sirius asked kindly. Harry swallowed, took a large breath, and opened his mouth to speak.

"I saw my mum. She was putting me in my crib and told me that she loved me when a scary man came into the room and killed her after she said not to kill me but to kill her instead. He tried to kill me I think, but he couldn't. He disappeared. It hurt right where my scar is," Harry told them. Remus and Sirius stared at him, their eyes full of pain. So that was how Lily had died, fighting to save Harry.

"Oh, Harry. You poor thing. Do you want to try and go back to sleep now?" Remus asked hastily. Harry nodded.

"But can you stay here until I fall asleep?" he asked, his voice slightly timid.

"Of course," Sirius replied, his voice soft. Harry sighed with relief and lay back down. He pulled the blankets up to his nose and closed his eyes. Occasionally he would open his eyes back up only to see Sirius and Remus still watching him. When they caught him looking they would smile and he would smile back. Harry closed his eyes once more and relaxed his body. He felt himself start to fall asleep when he thought he heard a loud noise as if someone had pounded once on the door really loud. He opened his eyes and looked around, once more awake and alert. When nothing happened he assumed that it had occurred inside his head. Harry looked over at Sirius and Remus. They were both asleep. Sirius was snoring with drool dripping down his chin. Harry wanted to giggle at how silly he sounded and looked.

"I've got to do something for them. They've been so kind to me, they deserve it," Harry thought to himself. He carefully got out of the bed and tiptoed downstairs. He found some colored papers and pencils and began to write a story similar to his own, but with a dog, a wolf, and a fawn who all became best friends. Harry made sure to do the best illustrations he could. He observed his work and grinned, it was perfect! He glanced out the window, the sun was coming up. He was just going to take a short nap.

"Harry! Where did you go?" Remus called from upstairs. Harry opened his eyes. He glanced at the book and smiled giddily. It was the perfect gift! Remus came downstairs, followed close behind by Sirius.

"Oh, good. There you are," Sirius said. Harry held up the book shyly as they came up to him. Remus grabbed it and sat down at the table next to Sirius and began to read it through.

"Awww, Harry, that is so sweet," Remus said as he scooped Harry up. Harry smiled.

"It's to thank you for being the bestest godfathers in the whole wide world!"
