PIPER

DON’T WORRY PIPER. Jason is fine, Piper told herself. She couldn’t sleep. She had an overwhelming urge to go to Jason’s room, see if he is okay. He saved the ship, all by himself, and Piper was worried that he had been hurt.

According to Annabeth, they were supposed to land in France in roughly half an hour. It was and awfully short time to prepare. Piper was worried they weren’t ready to fight the giant, Syhenome. Jason was exhausted, Leo had dislocated his shoulder, and Hazel was still feeling a bit lightheaded. Piper decided to get some air.

On the deck, Piper could see the shoreline of France. She took deep breaths and let the wind calm her. But Piper had a feeling that she would soon have an important role to play. She was sure it was something to do with Syhenome. The bane of Aphrodite had to be destroyed by the daughter of Aphrodite. Though Piper didn’t know how, she had only come across reading about the giant once or twice, but Syhenome wasn’t mentioned a lot in her dad’s movie.

Piper watched the ship glaze through the ocean, the water splitting and foaming to let the ship pass. She vaguely thought if Poseidon was down there, watching them. Would he be angry at the Six, for losing Percy? Or would he help them? Piper remembered that to destroy a giant, a god’s help is provided. Would Aphrodite help Piper? She felt so helpless. Piper felt like she was going to fail her friends. She was scared.

“Piper,” Piper recognized Annabeth’s voice. “We’re landing soon.”

Piper wiped away a tear. “O-okay. Thanks Annabeth” Piper tried for a smile, but Annabeth saw through it.

“It will be okay. We’ll help you” Annabeth put a comforting arm around Piper. Annabeth seemed to know who had to destroy the giant.

“How could it possibly okay? I have to kill a giant! I can’t do it, I have no idea how to!” Piper fought back a sob. She had to stop getting emotional; it wouldn’t do anyone any good.

“Hey, you can’t think like that. I used to and, well, it doesn’t help. You just have to keep believing, you know? Trust yourself.”

Piper had a strange feeling. There was a strong vibe coming off of Annabeth. Pain. Love. Hope. That must be what she’s feeling, Piper thought frantically. How come I know that? Piper soon made the connection.  I can speak French… France... City of Love… Mom, Aphrodite… Feelings… I have the power to tell someone feelings, in France!

Piper hugged Annabeth. “We’ll save Percy. Don’t worry, he’s not gone.”

Annabeth smiled gratefully, and her eyes were hopeful, but a tiny, invisible aura of doubt surrounded her. “Thanks Piper” Annabeth turned to face France, her eyes widened. “I think we’re here”

Piper and her friends walked off the ship to meet the giant. She and Annabeth had hurried everyone out of bed when Annabeth saw the giant of the beach. Jason had light bags under his eyes, and Leo’s shoulder was still red and a little weak, but otherwise they were in normal condition. Hazel was okay. Piper was worried about Jason and Leo mostly, and had wanted them to stay aboard to avoid any more injuries. But they insisted to join the fight.

The giant Syhenome, was about the ugliest being Piper had every encountered. She knew that wasn’t important, but the Aphrodite part of her noticed that as soon as she stepped off the Argo II. She was just… sitting, waiting, on the beach, and didn’t seem to notice the Six yet. She was covered in only a chainmail dress, very similar to Ma Gasket’s dress, but Syhenome’s was a mustard, rusty colour. She had worn sandals on, showing off her chipped, yellow toenails. Her head was covered in messy, greasy dreadlocks, the colour of green. Her face seemed… different. It was stained with a constant frown. Her small eyes were shaded with her horrendous bushy brows. Her nose was long and pointy. Her mouth was the size a walruse's, the lips cracked and dry. Her hands were abnormally big and gnarly. Her stench... her stench was ghastly. She didn't seem to have a weapon.
