Chapter Seven

Audrey’s Pov.

I walked with Henry up the steps of the manor of the fief of Crane.  It was large, not as large as the palace, with large smooth walls. Large windows with black curtains covered over them were placed symmetrical on the outside walls of the manor. It had large intimidating black doors with large dragon knockers.

I glanced at Henry and he pushed me forward, hesitantly I placed my hand on the knocker and lifted it. It fell with a loud bang. Suddenly the doors were opened and a girl stood there. Her hair was long straight and brown. Her brown eyes were filled with humor and sarcasm.

I smiled, “Hello Av.” I said using her nickname I gave her as children. She looked at me and smiled obviously recognizing me.

She lunged at me with open arms and pulled me into a huge hug, “I haven’t seen you in ten years! Oh my! Look how tall you’ve gotten; you’re not your old short self.”

I looked at her and gasped, “I was not short!”

“Sure you weren’t.” Henry remarked. I glared at him. Avice squealed and tackled Henry in a hug too.

“Henry!” she greeted loudly. Henry had the biggest grin on his face when he had her in his arms. “I missed you!”

“I missed you too, Bird.” (A/N for those of you who don’t know Avis means “bird” in Latin. That’s where I got her name from, I just spelled it differently. SO it’s not pronounced like Advice without the “d” sorry if this author note is confusing! )

Suddenly there was a loud smack and I saw Henry holding his right cheek. “Ow! What was that for?”

“For not writing to me!” And then he had to hold his other cheek, “And that is for calling me “bird” again!” she yelled, but as much as she tried she couldn’t hold back the smile that was forming on her face.

I laughed at them; they were so perfect for each other. “So what brings you two here?” Avice asked when she finally done yelling at Henry.

I replied, “My quest is to gather all the Warriors and fight the Trayn Clan.”

“Finally!” she yelled excited. “I have been itching for a good fight!” I rolled my eyes. “So are you, my dear friends, hungry?” she inquired in a very proper tone.

“Famished.” I said with a smile. Then I followed Avice through the massive manor. She showed us to some rooms that we cleaned up in. Then we went down to the dining room for diner.

Lord Leofwin sat at the head of the table; he had cold black eyes, and a long dark beard. His daughter, Magisrta, sat with long dark hair like her father and bright green eyes. She stared at me, well it was more of a glare. I don’t think she likes me very much.

Lord Leofwin started, “So you are going to take Avice with you, and leave my dear daughter unprotected?”

Well, that was rude.

“I am very sorry, but in order for your daughter to be at her safest we have to take out the Trayn Clan. If it’s not dealt with then we are putting you and the Royal family in danger. And there aren’t enough Warriors to be able to fight off an army in different places.”

“I don’t see why you need Avice. She should be able to stay here and protect my daughter and the rest of you lot can go and fight.” He demanded. “After all, she is the heir to the throne.”

“No she isn’t. Nick- Prince Nickolous is the heir to the throne.”

Lord Leofwin smiled a creepy smile, “Not for long my dear.” A servant came entered the room and bowed. “Yes?”

“Lord Leofwin, Prince Nickolous is here to see Miss Audrey.” Oh no. Lord Leofwin looked at me, I just smiled awkwardly.

I got up from my seat and followed the servant to the main room. I saw Nickolous and saw his face light up when his gaze met mine. “Audrey?” he said, incredulously.

“Nickolous what are you doing here?” I demanded, furious.

“I came to find you.” He said like it was obvious.

I glared, “Why?” I shouldn’t have asked that.

“Because I love you!” he told me. He got down on his knees. Oh no. “Please Audrey,” he reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring.

“Oh no. No, no, no. Please not me Nickolous.”

“Marry me?” he asked. I let out a frustrated noise.

“Nickolous. I love you, truly I do. But I can’t. I have a quest I have to complete-“

“Then after that!”

“I have a duty to the Gold Warrior.”

“Forget about the Gold Warrior!” he exclaimed. “Marry me! I can make you happy! What can he do? Nothing! You love me! You have told me that! So why can’t you just love me! Be rebellious for once in your life! You don’t have to listen to your village’s rules! Why can’t you be the queen of my kingdom?” he asked. The hurt and pain in his eyes was so strong. I had to look away, tears fell from my eyes.

“I-I my parents-“

“Wouldn’t they want you to listen to your heart?”

I couldn’t take any more of this, “I-I- I don’t know!” with that I ran from the room. I ran to the dining room and into Henry’s arms.

I cried.

In front of Avice, Magisrta, Lord Leofwin, I made myself look weak. “I don’t want to hurt him.” I sobbed into Henry’s shoulder.

“Shh…I know. Come on.” He picked me up bridal style and carried me to my room. He laid me down on my bed and laid down next to me. He pulled me to him. I saw Avice enter looking sad.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” she asked.

“He proposed.” I sobbed.

“So?” she asked.

“He’s not the Gold Warrior.” Henry explained.

“So why is she so sad?”

“Because I love him. I love him so much and he loves me but we can’t be together because of being a warrior. I hate being a warrior.”

“Aw, sweetie. Everything is going to be alright.” She assured me and hugged me. She looked at Henry as if to say ‘Right?’

Henry nodded, “Don’t worry, everything is going to turn out perfect.” He said and kissed my forehead. I fell asleep like that.
