Chapter Eleven

Nickolous’s Pov.

I went back to my tent and laid down on my bed, I couldn’t sleep. I just needed time to think by myself. I kept thinking about when I was fighting Leofwin. I almost killed him, if I hadn’t thought about Audrey at that moment…  I would have been a murderer.

I was so close, it made me sick. How did Audrey handle this feeling? The feeling about killing another human? How did any of the warriors handle it? They all seemed so nice and entertaining and yet, they had all taken a life before.

I still love Audrey, more than ever now that I know more of what she has gone through. I turned and saw the lights from the fire, I caught a glimpse of Audrey, she was safe and with her family now.

With that thought I feel asleep. But my dream was stranger than his others.

He was in his study at the palace. There was a man standing with his back to him. He was wiping something off of his hands then he turned around. Nickolous finally saw what was on his hands…blood.

“Strange,” the man commented, he looked at Nickolous. “You are such a compassionate man, brave and caring, strong and smart. You will make a great king, I am sure of that.” He smiled. Then he noticed something very familiar about the man. “I couldn’t have picked a better man to have stolen my daughter’s heart.”

“Your Audrey’s father?”  Nickolous asked.

“Indeed I am, nice to meet you.” The man held his hand out for him to shake it. Nickolous took it hesitantly.

“I hope this isn’t rude, but what are you doing here?”

“What a man can’t meet his future son-in-law?” Audrey’s father asked. “Anyway, I am Dominick Throne, or the Gold Warrior. I am here to tell you something very important—“

I was woken up by the sound of someone knocking, I opened the door and their stood Audrey, she seemed to study me for a moment, “Audrey?”

“There is something I must do.” She told me a seductive smile. Then she pushed me into the tent and shut it.

“Audrey what are you—“ I was cut off by her kissing me on the lips, I was too surprised to do anything. I was even more surprised when she pushed me on to the platform-like-bed. She straddled me and broke the kiss. “Audrey, what are you doing?” I asked, straining to keep my voice even. She trailed kisses down my neck. “Audrey.” I tried again. I couldn’t handle this, there was something wrong with her,  I knew it.

I pushed her away from me, “Audrey stop.” She looked hurt and I almost regretted it.

“What’s wrong, Nick? You don’t want me?” She asked, her eyes so filled with hurt that it pained me. I never wanted her to look like this.

“No I do, trust me I do. But not now, not here. Two days ago, you rejected my marriage proposal, three days ago you told me you never wanted to see me again, and four days ago you kissed me.”

“So?” She inquired confused. “I want you now, and you want me. So what does it matter what happened a few days ago? I want to live in the present and forget the past and future.”

I searched her liquid silver eyes for the real Audrey, she had to be in there somewhere, “Audrey please, I know you’re in there somewhere. I know for a fact that all you do is dwell in the past and future and never do anything rebellious, that’s why I love you.”

“Maybe I don’t want to dwell anymore.” She replied, she tried to slip out of her dress.

“No, bad Audrey.” I warned her and caught her hands and pulled them away from her dress, “No.” I told her looking her directly in the eyes. She tried to kiss me, I pulled away, “No, means no. Now get off of me.” I ordered.

“But it’s much more comfortable here,” she whispered in my ear, she let her breath fan across my face. God, this was getting harder.

“No.” I choked out.

“It doesn’t sound like you want me too.” She said, leaning back. Then she started trailing kisses up my chest, “It sounds like you don’t want me to stop.” She added, her breath fanning across my chest making me shiver. “See?”

Do this for her, I reminded myself.

I held her shoulders and looked her deep in the eyes, “Your right. I do want this.” I told her sweetly. She smiled, “But not right now.” I pushed her over the edge of the bed, and watched her hit the ground. I felt bad, but I pushed that away and looked around the tent for something.

I found my sword and pulled it out just as she got up and walked over to me, I held the sword out to keep her at bay. But she didn’t even notice the sword; she still lunged at me so I had to move it out of the way. Instead I held her at bay with my hand I then… threw my sword on the bed and pushed her away with one hand. She fell back and hit her head on one of the poles that held the tent up. I quickly checked to make sure she was breathing and was happy when I discovered she was. She was just knocked unconscious.

I picked her up and carried her to her tent and placed her in her bed and pulled the blankets over her. I quietly walked out of the tent and towards my own when Zachary stopped me. “Hey there so did everything work out alright?” he asked.

“What are you talking about?” I inquired.

“I gave Audrey a love potion that came from the Rendenton Reign.” He answered with a smile.

I clenched my fists and though gritted teeth I managed a, “You what?!?”

“I gave her a love potion so that she would admit that she loved you and accept your proposal. Why do you look so mad?” he explained.

“Because she did accept any proposal, she tried to seduce me!” I whispered furiously.

“Oh,” he looked surprised, “Maybe I put too much in her drink.” He whispered to himself.

“Really? I didn’t notice when she kept attacking me!” I exclaimed.

“I am so sorry, I thought I was helping. Well, if it makes you feel any better by the time she wakes up tomorrow the love potion will be out of her system and she will back to normal.”

“Good, and sorry to yell at you, I know you were just trying to help.” I apologized.

“If it makes you feel any better, I want you guys to end up together. I don’t believe that fairytale story, you too are perfect together.” He said.

“Thanks,” I said.
